Where Musicians, Singers & Dancers Learn Traditional Styles From All Over the World

NEXT YEAR'S DATES: July 26 - August 3, 2024

Lark Campout!

Lark Traditional Arts is pleased to announce the second annual Lark Campout, October 6-9, 2023 at the Jug Handle Creek Farm and Nature Center in Caspar, CA on the Mendocino Coast. The campout will be “an informal gathering of Lark-minded individuals”, intended to supplement our regular camp with a smaller event that is more financially and physically accessible. It will be a mostly acoustic, world folk music campout that will include some volunteer workshops, jamming on the back porch of the farmhouse, lots of playing around the campfire, and one or two organized dances.

  • $250 per person for an on-site double occupancy room
  • $200 per person for on-site bunk room
  • $150 per person for on-site tent or RV camping
  • Young adults aged 18 - 25 and children under 18 who stay on-site pay half price
  • An off-site pass for the whole weekend is available for $75

Space is limited, and will be assigned on a first-come/first-served basis. There are 10 private rooms and 5 shared rooms in the Farmhouse and Bunkhouse, with a few ADA accessible options in the Bunkhouse. There are 10 RV spaces (no hookups), and 35 tent spaces with access to water and porta potties. There will be 50 day-use passes available for Mendocino Coast locals, or those who would like to find lodging elsewhere in the area.

Meals will not be provided. Campers will need to bring their own food and cook for themselves using a camp stove or one of the shared kitchen spaces. Caspar is close to both Fort Bragg and Mendocino, so eating out will also be an option.

We will not have an official crew as we do at Lark Camp, so we need all campers to pitch in. We ask that campers sign up for one chore shift during the weekend. Chores will include litter pickup, kitchen and bathroom cleaning, office/greeter hours, and camp setup and teardown. You will be able to sign up for your preferred chore on the registration form. (Registration form link below!)

Our very own Marina Zekley has designed a T-shirt for the Campout. You can order yours from our Etsy store in the size and color you want! They're available in a classic crew neck and a short sleeve fitted v-neck.

Because you will be exposed to a large group of people traveling from varied places, a COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended for everyone ages 6 months and older, per CDC guidelines. We ask that you take a rapid COVID test on the morning of Friday, October 9, before you travel to camp. If you test positive, text or email Meghan (707-734-3883 or, to say you are not coming; we will refund your money if you need to cancel for COVID related reasons. Your care helps protect our community, some of whom—though immunized—are elderly and/or immunocompromised.

If you require special accommodations or prefer to register by phone, call us at 707-397-5275.

In case you need another reason to join us the weekend of the Campout, there will be a public memorial, potluck, and dance in honor of Mickie Zekley at the Caspar Community Center on Sunday, October 8.

Lark Camp promotes worldwide understanding through world culture and provides an open forum for the exchange of creative ideas among musicians, singers, dancers, and composers. The Lark Camp experience is enhanced by motivational instructors and inspired students who share their passions and skills. We offer many workshops suitable for beginners and professional artists alike.
