News, Honors & Achievements from AMD Middle School

Principal's Update

Hey everyone! Dr. Nover here. Happy Friday!

This week we opened our doors to other leaders within our school district. Everyone was so pleased with the work here at AMD. Our building and district leaders commented on the engaging instruction taking place in our ELA classes, the overall feel of the building, and the cleanliness of the space. I am so proud of our work at AMD this year!

It has come to our attention that some students are not regularly showing up for class with a writing utensil. Please ensure that your student is prepared with all of their materials for class. Thank you for your support in this matter!

The APP test, or athletic placement test, for 7th and 8th-grade student-athletes, will take place after school on Tuesday, February 13th, and Thursday, February 15th. The APP is to be used only when an individual athlete’s athletic skills warrant moving to the commencement or intermediate sport competition level, and therefore, ideally, it should be initiated by the district’s physical education director and/or athletic director and physical education staff, who recognize the student’s skill. The APP may be used either before the beginning of the season so that the student-athlete can participate in the try-out period, or within the timelines specified by the NYSPHSAA Promotion Rule. Students should speak to their PE teacher or coach before attending. Any student participating must be in the gym by 2:52 PM on the day of their APP test.

On Thursday, February 15th our entire school is invited to participate in a virtual author assembly with Jewell Parker Rhodes as part of our Black History Month celebrations. Jewell is the author of numerous YA novels including Ghost Boys, Towers Falling, and Ninth Ward.

This weekend, many of our families will celebrate the Lunar New Year. May good luck and fortune fall upon you.

Have an amazing weekend! Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything.

With gratitude,

Dr. Nicole Mangiere Nover

Principal
