Principal's Update
Hey everyone! Dr. Nover here. Happy Friday and Happy Black History Month!
It is finally February! I don't know if you saw the memes circulating about how long January felt, but I certainly did! I think our kids did as well. In full transparency, we have seen an uptick in student behaviors that do not represent the best of AMD. Please speak with your student leaders about the expectations that we review daily. Most specifically, some students are disregarding the directions of adults. This can pose a threat to their safety and the safety of others. I remind students to always follow directions the first time they are given. A strong, safe, and joyful school culture is an environment in which all students can thrive. This is what our team strives for at AMD.
In speaking to our students, some shared they are very tired. Exhaustion can contribute to a decrease in prosocial behaviors. Adolescents need 9-12 hours of sleep each night. This would mean a 9:00 PM bedtime for students waking up at 6:00 AM. This is a significant time of development in their brains. Please talk to your child about healthy sleep patterns. Thank you for your support.
We will be celebrating Black History Month throughout February here at AMD. All 7th and 8th-grade families, please be on the lookout for permission slips from your child's social studies teacher. Our 7th and 8th graders will be visiting the Black History and Culture Exhibit at Bethany Arts entitled Black Presence. Profound Influence. In addition, Mr. Charvet is convening a group of 8th-grade student leaders to plan programming for our students. You will also find a digital library below. This resource has been shared in each grade level's Google Classroom as well.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. If you need anything, please don't hesitate to reach out. Have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday!
With gratitude,
Dr. Nicole Mangiere Nover
