Congratulations to the participants of the 2024 National Latin Exam. The National Latin Exam (NLE) is a test given annually to Latin students across the United States and around the world. The NLE is not meant to be a competition but rather an opportunity for students to receive reinforcement and recognition for their accomplishments in the classroom. Depending upon their score, students may earn certificates, medals, and may even qualify for scholarships. Every single Latin 1 student who took the exam scored Maxima Cum Laude or higher!.

Perfect Paper: Layla Baker, Hunter Davis, William Swan

Gold Summa Cum Laude: Layla Baker, Charles Wilkinson, Jonathan Thai, Christopher Chen, Kate Shelley, Noah Kim, Bella-Kate Jenkins, Hunter Davis, Nola Brown, Daniel Golpayegani, Kiley Irvine, Daniel Fujamade, William Swan

Silver Maxima Cum Laude: Madison Schryver, Ivy Farnsworth, Joshua Yang, Neha Kapil

Magna Cum Laude: Isabella Finol-Bishop

Cum Laude: Zachary Koviak

A special recognition to Kiley Irvine, Daniel Fujamade, and William Swan – their gold medals on the highest level of the exam has earned them the opportunity to win one of 16 scholarships from the National Latin Exam worth $2000 a year. Jenna McCulloch (class of 2023) was one of last year’s winners!

Kudos to these erudite scholars who have dedicated their enthusiasm and their sagacity to the study of Classical learning and the promotion of Milton’s academic programs across the nation!

TRACK & FIELD

Milton Track Races Well at McEachern Invitational

A school record & fast relays pace the Eagle effort

The Milton track teams concluded their regular season Saturday with a very successful outing at the always highly competitive McEachern Invitational.

BOYS

Milton (20th-14 pts) bested 13 schools at the team’s largest and most competitive meet of the season. Leading the Eagle charge was the school record performance of senior Zach Patell. His runner-up performance in the 800m (2nd-1:54.10) broke his old school record (1:54.46) which he had set a year ago on the same track at the state meet. Other scorers for Milton included sophomore Jayin Batra (6th-10:15.26) in the 3200m, junior CJ Wiley (8th-21.99) in the 200m making him the 5th best performer in school history, junior Justin Sevel (8th-4:31.40) for a big personal best in the 1600m and the 4x800m relay (8th-8:34.28) team of senior Daniel Murray, freshman Jasper Stone, sophomore Jonathan Lynch and junior Robert Claypoole running a season’s best.

GIRLS

The Lady Eagles (13th-23.5 pts) defeated 19 other schools while scoring from many different running events. The 4x800m relay (2nd-10:12.97) started off the day with a runner-up finish. Senior Calista Cacciatore, junior Ella Franke & freshman Lucie Gallagher & Aarushi Dhawan came from as far back as 9th the place 2nd in a season’s best time. The highlight of the long meet for Milton was the 4x400m relay (3rd-4:03.98) team of seniors Nya Smith, Ella Grace Malcom, Leelah Dennie & freshman Simone Dennis with their win in a slower heat to take 3rd overall & just missing the 8-year-old school record of 4:03.93. Malcom also scored for the Lady Eagles in the 800m (3rd-2:20.06). Simone Dennis also scored in 2 events with her 100m (7th-12.23) & 200m (8th-25.12) performances. The latter made her the 2nd best performer in school history, just missing the school record by .12!

The Eagle track teams next compete on Wednesday, April 24 at the GHSA 7A Region 6 championship meet hosted by West Forsyth HS for advancement to the GHSA Sectionals meet on May 4.
