ALIGN is calling for workshop presentations for the ALIGN ANNUAL CONFERENCE Strengthening Today; Building Tomorrow Conference JAN 23 - 24, 2025, EDMONTON.  

This 2-day learning event takes place every January in Edmonton, Alberta, and is designed for human services employees and includes presentations for senior leaders, board members, supervisors, and front-line workers. Approximately 250 people attend the conference each year.

The ongoing success of this conference is a result of ensuring we have knowledgeable presenters who are passionate in their areas of expertise. If you have a topic you think our participants would like to learn more about, please complete our online application.

These modules are recommended for the following:

• Managers (all levels)
• Supervisors
• Health and safety committee members or representatives
• Internal OHS staff
• Board members (where the organization’s OHS practices are part of the board’s reach)

At ALIGN Association of Community Services, we recognize that the path to Reconciliation and improved child welfare for Indigenous communities is a shared journey that requires collaboration, mutual learning, and respect. This June, as we honour National Indigenous Heritage Month, we emphasize our commitment to working alongside Indigenous communities to build stronger child welfare systems.

Following the introduction of The Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children, youth and families (Bill C92), it is imperative that non-Indigenous agencies understand the importance of working alongside Indigenous communities to ensure the effective implementation of this transformative legislation.

The Act under Bill C92 represents a significant shift in child welfare, emphasizing the rights of Indigenous communities to self-determination and jurisdiction over child wellbeing services. Disability Services is excited to announce that the Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) policy manual has been reformatted and relocated to a new website today, June 26, 2024. Please note that the content or meaning of the FSCD policies have not changed. A PDF document outlining internal operational procedures will continue to be viewable by families and the general public. Changes include structural, stylistic and copy edits such as improving order and flow of information, adding links, reducing redundancies and aligning with the Government of Alberta web standards and corporate branding. Recruitment for the Children and Family Services Youth Advisory Task Force is Now Open! The Task Force is made up of members from across the province who are between the ages of 14 to 24. They are passionate about amplifying the voices of young people with care experience and are empowered to help bring about positive changes to the Child Intervention system. YATF members provide their perspective, insight, and feedback on programs, policies and services that affect children, youth or young adults receiving Child Intervention services through the Ministry. Alberta.ca New OHS Allowance for Out-of-Province First Aid Certificates As of May 30, 2024, a new OHS allowance regarding out-of-province first aid certificates is in effect. Under this allowance, out-of-province first aid certificates for workplace first aid training courses recognized by another Canadian province or territory are now accepted as demonstrating proof of approved first aid training, as long as the courses comply with CSA Standard Z1210-17, First aid training for the workplace - Curriculum and quality management for training agencies. Any such out-of-province first aid certificate covered by the allowance will be considered as valid until the certificate expiry date. Worksite parties have the flexibility to follow the original first aid course requirements in the OHS Code or to follow the allowance.
