Engaging Providers with Essential Eating Disorder Training

On-Site Training in Dillingham with Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation (BBAHC)

As part of our ongoing eating disorders training with the Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation (BBAHC), AKEDA, along with Dr. Margaret Carlson Cosentino, provided in-person training for BBAHC staff in Dillingham on May 16th and 17th.

Over the past few months, our training program has successfully engaged various providers. The diabetes team, in particular, reported that the training reshaped their views on body image and led to increased patient screenings for eating disorders. This has fostered closer collaboration with the behavioral health team, enhancing support for patients. As a result, previously overlooked patients have been identified and connected with the necessary resources for their recovery journey.

This partnership program with BBAHC was made possible by a grant from the GCI Suicide Prevention Fund of The Alaska Community Foundation.
