Bridging the Digital Divide:

How Ada's Community Can Access Free Cybersecurity and Networking Courses

By: Sunnie Dawn Baker

Digital jobs are not just the careers of the future—they are the careers of the present. However, people can find it difficult to know where to start. Where does one begin this path? How can they find the appropriate trainings and certifications? And how can they overcome the barriers and obstacles that might block their way? Now, though, a multi-organizational partnership between the Ada Jobs Foundation (AJF), the Center on Rural Innovation (CORI), Cisco Networking Academy, and Pontotoc Technology Center (PTC) offers people in our community a unique opportunity to begin their journey towards a digital career and a brighter future.

For a limited time, individuals in our community can take two different online course, as well as the accompanying certification tests, for free through the Cisco Networking Academy.

On June 6th, the Ada Jobs Foundation welcomed students from ECU’s Oklahoma Business Week for their Board Room Lunch. AJF staff talked about economic development and their work, while also learning about the students and their entrepreneurial ideas. Ashia Todd guided her team to victory in the Trade Show category with their idea, Kineti-Kicks, shoes that generate electricity from walking. Congratulations to the team on their win!

Our partners at the Center for Rural Innovation have teamed up with CISCO to provide a special certification opportunity. They offer courses in Introduction to Networks and Introduction to Cybersecurity, both free for community members. You can study at your own pace, and completion leads to CompTIA Security+ and CompTIA Network+ certifications. Upon completion, you will get a voucher to take these exams.

If you are interested in participating in either course, sign up here!
