What Happened? On May 15th, Sunnie Baker and Daniel Castaneda visited Vanoss Schools. Speaking with both Middle and High School teachers, Sunnie provided an overview of her work to tell the story of entrepreneurship and innovation in our region. She shared how the people she has featured could be used in the classroom and inspire students interested in technology or starting a company. Daniel shared an update on the most recent Talent Demand Study and discussed how teachers could be engaged in the coming months in a new Technology Skilling Initiative.
The broader effort: We recognize that teachers play a critical role in supporting students into career paths in our region. We are currently working to speak to all of the superintendents and high school teachers in Pontotoc County in 2023 and plan to branch out to other counties covered by the EDA-funded Build to Scale grant in Southern Oklahoma. We want area educators to be informed of what we see in our work with private companies and startups, and we also want to learn about their perspective and what they see from their students day-to-day. Ultimately, we want our work to help inspire students so that they can start a business or work with an innovative company while continuing to live and be a part of a community in our region.
