Budget to boost digital

Message from the CEO: The digital health community is already quietly celebrating the Federal Budget to be handed down tonight, with $950m in funding announced as part of the government’s $2.2b Strengthening Medicare response. When Health Minister Mark Butler announced “foundational changes” at the National Press Club last week he said the government wanted a strong Medicare fit for the 21st century, underpinned by digital systems that drive better care. This includes making the Australian Digital Health Agency an ongoing entity and upgrading the My Health Record to make it more compatible with the information and billing systems that practitioners are already using. Other announcements included a focus on workforce and measures to enable a much more multi-disciplinary and team-based approach to primary health care. A coordinated team of health workers proactively working together for long term health benefits is the goal.

Those of us working in digital health know that the delivery of this is simply not possible without the digital and data enablement of healthcare. We look forward for more details to come in tonight’s Budget coverage.

Data Driven Healthcare Committee Consultation Workshop

AHRA Data Driven Healthcare Committee Consultation Workshop

2:00pm - 5:00pm Thursday 18 May

The AHRA Transformational Data Collaboration is working in conjunction with the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and CSIRO to develop a national tool that will allow for the community curation of medical vocabularies and terminologies. They are running an online consultation workshop to explore case and development priorities.

The national tool will be transformational in allowing existing health terminology mappings to be made available nationally saving huge amounts of effort and cost each year as different groups manage and curate their own mappings and understandings. It will also help underpin consensus in definitions and will allow fully automated updating of such definitions in health systems and research systems.

If you are interested in participating in the workshop please contact Workshop Manager Roger Ward.
