Summer Keeps Soaring Along

We at NCS hope you're having a great last few weeks of summer! While your officers prepare for Fall, 2 things for everyone:

  1. We need a Secretary! We're preparing for the next 2-year officer election (there's still time to apply for all positions HERE), but we haven't had nominations for Secretary as of yet. The Secretary is a great way to get involved with the Section; they manage communications, schedule meetings and keep minutes. If you're interested, or might be, please fill out the FORM or contact current Secretary Michael Barton.
  2. Anyone is invited to attend the monthly virtual Council meetings. The next one is tomorrow, Monday, Aug 12, 8:00-9:30PM ET. Reach out to Michael for the Teams link.

NCS Science Fair Winners Visit NASA Goddard

In June we were excited to continue our tradition of bringing NCS winners from 6 local science fairs on a 2-day visit of NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The visit included career networking sessions as well as a badged tour of several buildings including the clean room where the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is being constructed. In the image above, NCS K12 STEM Committee Chair Susan Bardenhagen and AIAA Member and Science Fair Judge William HooFatt join students and NASA personnel at the Goddard Visitor Center. Want to get involved in next year's Science Fair or Essay judging, or bring new ideas to the STEM committee? Contact Susan.

Space Systems Technical Committee Middle School Essay Contest Concludes

National Capital Section participated in the SSTC 7th and 8th Grade Essay Contest for the second year, doubling our number of applications! Students were asked to explore the profound effects of space observation on an industry of their choosing. Two of the winners, Livia and Shania, seen below with NCS STEM Committee Chair Susan Bardenhagen and their families, presented on July 27th at the American Association of University Women's Woodbridge and Greater Manassas Celebration of STEAMM.

Aerospace Events Around Town

As summer wraps up, DC is starting to crank up quite a few aerospace events. Here's a few to watch out for if you're wanting to get more involved, grow your network, or find that next job: Note: These events are not associated with AIAA NCS, but reply to this email and we'll answer any questions we can. If you want your event or group featured in a future message, please let us know!
