Member Survey Update

Thank you to everyone who filled out the member survey!

We had 87 total respondents, mostly AIA members,  but a solid amount of Associates and Affiliates as well.  We also had great representation from folks who are brand new members all the way up to lifetime members.

We learned that you guys LOVE to socialize, with the Year End Party, Design Awards Celebration, CHiT|CHaT and Architecture After 5 ranking the highest in importance among events.

You also ranked Continuing Education, Leadership programming and Mentorship as the most important programs.

You vastly prefer to get your information via email, although some of you would prefer personal phone calls and texts.

As we continue to plan for next year and beyond, we are paying close attention to what you all want to see more of and what is less important.

We'll be sending more short surveys out to dig deeper into some of the big things you'd like to see more of like continuing education, how we can get more out of membership meetings and what public outreach means to you.

Learning Objectives:
  • This presentation provides an in-depth look at outdoor fitness and its impact on urban residents
  • The presentation begins with a look at the social trends that have led to an increasing urbanized, sedentary, aging population, then considers the impact that even small gains in activity levels can lead to
  • We highlight the six main factors to consider when designing an outdoor fitness site, and look deeply at each one.  We follow that with an examination of the different types of equipment available in the market
  • We close the presentation by look at two urban fitness case studies in Copenhagen and New York City, and highlight the research results from each which clearly illustrate the impact outdoor fitness can have on urban residents.

Contractors Needed: PAWsh Palaces

Calling all contractors: We are looking for two more contractors to place on teams with architecture firms to build PAWsh Palaces for cats and/or dogs to benefit the Tulsa SPCA.

Contractors will work with an architecture firm to build the PAWsh Palace, which will then go on display at Woodland Hills Mall during the first two weeks of November.

Please email lindsey@aiaarchitects.com if you would like to participate.

Mentors Needed: Student PAWsh Palace Prototype Program

AIA, Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance, and the Tulsa SPCA are taking the dog house building program into elementary schools this semester.  For 6 weeks kids will learn what it takes to be an architect - From interviewing clients (shelter animals), researching their needs, to designing and finally building prototype houses for their animals.

We need your help!  We're currently looking for volunteers to spend about an hour a week mentoring 4th and 5th grade students as they work on this project.

The project will take place between September 10 and October 17.  We'll place mentors with classes that fit with your schedule.  Can't commit to the whole 6 weeks? No problem, we're happy to pair people up to help out the classes.

Please email chapter@aiaarchitects.com if you're interested in participating.
