There are 2,200 members in Ohio. Chances are, you or someone you know is worthy of one of these recognitions. Descriptions of the different awards are linked below. Plan to recognize a worthy recipient that you may know!

The AIA Ohio Gold Medal is the highest honor that AIA Ohio can bestow on a member. The AIA Ohio Board of Directors confers this award, which recognizes the exemplary contributions and significant accomplishments of AIA Ohio members.

The AIA Ohio Gold Medal Firm Award is the highest honor AIA Ohio can bestow on an architecture firm.  This award recognizes a firm's ongoing commitment to design, firm culture, or innovation, each of which contribute to the firm’s unique place as a leader in the profession.

The AIA Ohio Public Service Award recognizes a member who has made a significant impact in his/her community, as well as to the profession, through public service.

The AIA Ohio Mentor Award recognizes a member who has demonstrated strong leadership, guidance and service in the support of mentorship to fellow professionals or in her/his community.

The AIA Ohio Emerging Professional Award identifies and promotes exceptional accomplishments of Associate Members and Young Architect members and their continuing development within the profession.

Design Awards

It's time again to CELEBRATE DESIGN! The AIA Ohio Design Awards Program promotes projects that have distinguished themselves, through attention to quality design, high performance design, and AIA's Framework for Design Excellence. These awards recognize the best work produced by Ohio architects.

In the spirit of recognizing the differences between project types, AIA Ohio has six Design Award submission categories:

  • Category 1: Newly Completed Buildings
  • Category 2: Additions, Renovations and Restorations
  • Category 3: Interior Architecture
  • Category 4: Small Projects (Less than 5,000 sf and under $1.5M)
  • Category 5: Unbuilt Projects (Not built and not intended to be realized)
  • Category 6: 25 Year Award

In addition to project Design Awards, AIA Ohio shall have two supplemental design awards available for consideration. These include:

  • The AIA Ohio Impact Award - The AIA Ohio Impact Award is aimed at recognizing a project that exemplifies the power of design to create a better world. Impact Awards can be given for initiatives, research, products, or projects specifically designed to positively impact the social, environmental, and economic fabric of communities. Any project submitted for an AIA Ohio Design Award is eligible for consideration by the jury for this recognition, including projects recognized with awards in any of the other categories.
  • The AIA Ohio People’s Choice Award - Aimed at increasing firm/project/client visibility, voting for this award will be conducted on the AIA Ohio website and shared on social media. All projects submitted for AIA Ohio Design Awards will be entered into this award. Voting for this award will open on the due date of submissions and will run for a period of not less than four weeks. The People’s Choice Awards will be recognized based on the number of votes received. A minimum of the top three projects, ranked by votes cast, shall be recognized.

All projects must be submitted by July 1, 2024.
