Weigand Construction: The Strategic Pause
What is a “Strategic Pause?”
It is a time taken out of the day to collectively plan future tasks for the project; to think about what could happen, identify the plan, and establish steps for implementation.
Weigand promotes this process throughout each discipline of our team. Strategic Pauses serve as the backbone of our project specific risk analysis program. You will find it in meetings such as, Project Operations and Safety Controls, Project Safety Launch, Excavation Safety Logistics, Onset of Steel, Pre-Roofing, Critical Lift Preparation, Pre-Demolition and Environmental Controls, and many more.
The difference is the opportunity to strategically map the tasks that make for an efficient and safe execution. This is not accomplished in a vacuum, we mandate that our sub-contractors project manager, safety representative/field representative, and the Weigand team equivalents participate in these meetings prior to the commencement of work. The value of this process is allowing each team member the ability to have an equal voice and impact in the development of the strategic work plan. It’s this vision and “buy-in” that allows for a smooth transition from concept to implementation.

Vision vs. The Grind
This is something Weigand takes great pride in. We realize that without the Strategic Pause, the so called ‘Grind’ promotes poor coordination, and the need to make quick, uneducated decisions that lead to unnecessary risks taken.
These risks can result in injuries and mistakes, that can impede progress, negatively affect the bottom line, and most importantly adversely affect the health and wellbeing of our workforce.

Strategic Pauses require the Weigand team and our subcontracting partners to look at their tasks in totality and then dissect the risk involved. Forecasting and controlling this risk helps generate a predictable outcome.
The outcome that produces stronger results start with the Strategic Pause. Planning has been at the forefront of Weigand’s Safety Department, cultivating an atmosphere that thinks about people first. Weigand Construction does not just build buildings, we give our customer likeminded people who care about their community and their families. This is Trust. Well Built.
