AFCC is pleased to announce the appointment of Bryan Altman as its next executive director. Bryan joins AFCC following a comprehensive and competitive search and a unanimous vote by the AFCC Board of Directors. “We are thrilled to welcome someone with Bryan’s skills in operations and technology who is also a long-time AFCC member, partner, and contributor,” said AFCC President Stacey Platt.

Bryan served as the operational leader at OurFamilyWizard for two decades, helping to build and manage most aspects of the organization. He has attended conferences and been an AFCC member for nearly two decades. He was the point person for OurFamilyWizard’s partnership with AFCC, which included sponsorship of educational programs and webinars, presentations at numerous AFCC conferences, widespread support and leadership of several AFCC chapters, and extensive support helping AFCC move its educational programming online in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. Bryan also oversaw OurFamilyWizard’s development of its own educational programs and materials to assist separated and divorcing parents.

Bryan is known as an empathetic leader with an inclusive management approach and a knack for acquiring subject matter expertise. He brings extensive experience building teams and processes, overseeing daily operations, leading crisis management, and creating and implementing strategic plans. He also takes pride in successfully incorporating the needs of diverse clientele into products with integrity.

Bryan plans to work primarily from Minneapolis, where he lives with his wife and daughter, while also spending time with staff in the Madison, Wisconsin, office. "I am thrilled to join an organization where the mission aligns with my values and experiences, building upon my background in the private sector," Bryan said. “I learned a great deal about family law from my experience with AFCC and look forward to continuing to work with the association’s extraordinary staff, leadership, and members.”

Currently Bryan serves as a judge and mentor in startup competitions at the Universities of Minnesota and Wyoming. He sits on the board of directors for East Side Neighborhood Services, providing social services throughout Hennepin County, Minnesota, ranging from an alternative high school to food shelf and youth therapy programs. He is also the long-time treasurer of Simon Says Give, a non-profit that provides school supplies and other resources to under-resourced families. He served several years with the Computing Technology Industry Association’s IT-Ready Business Advisory Council, promoting technical careers for those who have traditionally found tech inaccessible, and volunteering with the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP) in Amman, Jordan.

“I am excited that Bryan is joining AFCC,” said executive director Peter Salem. “He has been a terrific partner and an advocate for AFCC through his work with OurFamilyWizard, and I look forward to continuing our relationship as he transitions into his new role.”

Bryan will begin his work at AFCC on June 1, and work with Peter through the end of June to ensure a smooth transition.
