Record-high international olive oil prices have increased imported oil costs. (ABC Rural: Megan Hughes)
Australian olive oil producers say domestic demand is skyrocketing as international prices for the product reach record highs. Now more competitively priced, home-grown olive oil has been able to grow its market share, according to Australian Olive Association chief executive Michael Southan.

Hudson pear is an invasive cactus species of Mexican origin that can seriously degrade land and ecosystems - and penetrate vehicle tyres. (Supplied: Andy McKinnon; NSW Department of Primary Industries).
Drones are being called in to try and halt the outbreak of a problematic cactus weed in far west New South Wales. Hudson pear, or Cylindropuntia rosea, a highly invasive cactus species that was brought to Australia sometime in the 60s, is threatening the productivity of pastoral land and livestock.
Be aware and check your tyres if you’re driving up that way and returning in your vehicle. And keep your eyes out elsewhere across the country – they don’t call it highly invasive for nothing!

GROWER TO GROWER
Have a question? Need some advice? Ask a fellow grower!
The FOE team regularly hears from growers with questions about grove or production practices, or equipment, that they just can’t find the answers to. They’re things other producers are likely know about and/or experienced themselves. So we’ve set up a new Friday Olive Extracts feature, Grower to Grower, where you can send your questions and have them answered by your peers.
Just send the details to editor@olivegrower.com.au and we’ll put them out to the Friday Olive Extracts community - that’s thousands of readers across the globe.
