New Cylinder Heads for Perkins

4000 Series Engines

The AERA Technical Committee offers the following information regarding new cylinder heads for 4000 series Perkins engines. Perkins released these new heads as part of their continuous improvement process. The new heads come with valves and seats set at 20° angles compared to the original 30° angle.


These new cylinder heads have a better seating geometry for extending periods between overhauls and better durability while maintaining fuel efficiency. Refer to the information below to see what serial numbers are associated with these new heads.

New Piston Cooling Jet Caution on Perkins 

1100 Series Engines

The AERA Technical Committee offers the following information regarding piston cooling jet caution for Perkins 1100 Series Engines. Perkins has a new piston cooling jet for all 1100 series 3-cylinder D models, 4-cylinder R models and 6-cylinder VK models. This change to the piston cooling jet is part of Perkins’ continuous improvement process. 


The new and original piston cooling jets cannot be distinguished visually and have different alignment measurements but can be intermixed in the same engine. Once the cooling jet is installed the alignment position needs to be checked using the following information.
