Celebrating success while looking forward- that seems to be the double theme of this month’s newsletter.

We certainly celebrated success at AEDC’s annual meeting, where Board Treasurer Michael Proulx reaffirmed our fiscal strength and Board President Mandy Marquez spoke about all the wonderful business and community projects AEDC has supported, like the Carson Block Building, Open Door Community Health Clinic and Sequoia Park Zoo Improvements. But Mandy also encouraged us to look forward- and recent collaborations with new funding partners, like the one we embarked on to make the Hoopa Grocery Store a reality, make the possibilities seem unlimited.

Celebrating AEDC's Success

Clients, Board Members and Community members gathered at AEDC's Annual Meeting on October 23 f or a look at AEDC's past year activities and hear what we're looking forward to in this current year.

The event featured a special presentation by Joe Davis, planning director from the Hoopa Valley Tribe. Attendees learned about the new Hoopa Valley Grocery store and heard about the collaborations that allowed AEDC to make our largest loan ever for the project.

The Humboldt County Workforce Development Board is asking employers to take a brief confidential survey by Friday, November 2 ^nd .

The survey will capture new or unavailable information about workforce needs.

On October 11, Get Ready Humboldt hosted their launch event at the Ingomar Club in Eureka.

Get Ready Humboldt is a community wide effort to inspire local young people and to build a stronger college-going culture in our region. It promotes the importance of college education for our shared prosperity.

Speakers at the launch included HSU and CR presidents Lisa Rossbacher and Keith Snow-Flamer, Humboldt County office of Education Superintendent Chris Hartley, and Matt Welton, Director of Talent Acquisition for Adidas. The event also presented a panel discussion that included Chris Albright (O & M Industries), Jennifer Budwig (Redwood Capital Bank), Neal Ewald (Green Diamond Resoucre Company) and more.

AEDC has officially launched

Workforce Weekend !

Workforce Weekend seeks to bridge the gap between what employers need and what applicants are seeking. We all want to engage in meaningful work and to find teams of people who align with our ideals. But in an ever-changing job market, we need to try an out-of-the-box approach to the hiring process.

Workforce Weekend is a free platform seeking to connect job seekers and businesses in Humboldt County. Think of it as a cross between a personality matching site and a job fair—an online portal that serves as a catalyst for everyone to find their right fit. Applicants are empowered to find an organization that aligns with their personal and professional goals. Over the course of one weekend, employers can discover new talent and team members who will align with their organization’s culture, possibly even before there’s a position vacancy. It all culminates in a weekend of interviews to match businesses and job seekers!

From $50,000 to $5 million for commercial real estate, construction and equipment acquisition.

Many commercial loans available on the market require a sizeable percentage down before the loan will be granted, and this can be an obstacle for many business owners looking to improve their facilities. The SBA 504 Loan offers a solution for that -- you can borrow up to 90% of your financing needs at a fixed rate, so only a minimum of 10% down is required.

The remainder is split between the SBA loan (40%) and a bank loan (50%), and the Arcata Economic Development Corporation will work with your bank to submit your loan application. Loan amounts range from $50,000 to $5 million, and some restrictions apply.
