It's time for AEDC's eleventh annual Spotlight on Success. If you've never made it to one of our celebrations, mark your calendar. You're in for a treat. This event offers a chance to spotlight the new and ever changing and growing businesses on the North Coast.
You'll see brand new enterprises. You'll see little start-ups that aren't so little anymore. You'll see partner businesses and organizations. As small businesses continue to grow and thrive, so does our economy.
We also select on organization that deserves recognition for its contribution to the local economy. This year we will honor the Humboldt-Del Norte Film Commission as an important economic engine in our region.
And, of course, Spotlight offers an opportunity to meet with old friends and make new ones while sampling local food and drink, enjoying the displays, listening to live music and supporting and encouraging our local entrepreneurs.
We look forward to seeing you there.

"Our experience was excellent!" enthused Trinity Diesel co-owner Deborah Lankila when asked about her loan experience with AEDC. "The person who helped me, Jayne, was knowledgeable, understanding, and very helpful. She answered all my many questions and helped me with the paperwork."
Trinity Diesel in Arcata is a family owned business now owned by Deborah and Ken Lankila and partner Mike Barreto. The trio bought the then 50+ year old business in 2006 and just celebrated their 11th anniversary on Feb. 10.
The company's commitment to honesty and excellent customer service has continued under the new ownership and the company continues to serve rural landowners, agricultural producers, fleet managers and contractors. They offer a full service parts department, roadside assistance and a completely trained shop. They also serve as the exclusive Kubota dealer in the Humboldt County area.
"We just continue to grow our business," Deborah said. "We used the AEDC loan to buy a new server. When we approached a local bank the money we needed was less than they wanted to loan on and they referred me to AEDC." According to Deborah, the new server has cut their down time dramatically, increasing efficiency and saving money.

SBA 504 Becomes the
SBA Grow Loan
|
- Low down payment for borrowers
- Competitive fixed interest rate
- Long Term loan
- From $50,000 to $5 million for commercial real estate, construction and equipment acquisition.
Many commercial loans available on the market require a sizeable percentage down before the loan will be granted, and this can be an obstacle for many business owners looking to improve their facilities. The SBA 504 Loan offers a solution for that -- you can borrow up to 90% of your financing needs at a fixed rate, so only a minimum of 10% down is required.
The remainder is split between the SBA loan (40%) and a bank loan (50%), and the Arcata Economic Development Corporation will work with your bank to submit your loan application. Loan amounts range from $50,000 to $5 million, and some restrictions apply.
Some refinancing is also eligible through the 504 Refinance Program. This was made permanent in late May of 2016. It will help small business owners ease their financial burdens and create incentives for potential expansion and further job creation.
The 504 loan program, with its long term fixed-rate, can help refinance debt from adjustable rate loans with significant savings to borrowers. For more information about this newly re-instated program, contact us at AEDC.
