As a result of employee furloughs due to sequestration, the Federal Aviation Administration is implementing traffic management initiatives at airports and facilities around the country. Travelers can expect to see a wide range of delays that will change throughout the day depending on staffing and weather-related issues. For example, the FAA is experiencing staffing challenges at the New York and Los Angeles En Route Centers and at the Dallas-Ft. Worth and Las Vegas TRACONs. Controllers will space planes farther apart so they can manage traffic with current staff, which will lead to delays at airports including DFW, Las Vegas and LAX. The FAA also expects delays at Newark and LaGuardia because of weather and winds. More...

History tells us when it comes to developing and implementing large-scale modernization programs, the FAA doesn't have the best track record. And just to keep things interesting, the Next Generation Air Transportation System involves many more agencies and will require new avionics. How's all that going? Click here to read more on this topic from Joseph E. (Jeb) Burnside in the April issue of Avionics News magazine.

Paula Derks gave the annual AEA State of the Association address on Tuesday, March 26, at the 56th AEA International Convention & Trade Show in Las Vegas, Nev.

During her speech, Derks applauded the work ethic of the AEA member companies during the industry's depressed economy in the last few years and said, "We are still here, and we are all still working." A continuing theme of the speech noted that despite the recent challenges faced by the general aviation industry, the hard work of staying in business and finding innovative ways to keep the doors open did not stop. The speech also set the tone for the rest of the week during the convention, and many AEA members shared their best practices and ideas that are working for their respective companies. AEA members are invited to share their stories and what's working for them in this Member Feedback Survey.

In addition, Derks announced the brand new AEA Avionics Market Report. This report was created to reflect the dollar value of the avionics market. No such market report has previously existed.
Thanks to the production efforts of the Aero-News Network, you can now watch the entire address. More...

AEAviators
Avionics News recently introduced a new feature, "AEAviators." This section features an employee from an AEA member company who currently has their pilot's license. In the avionics industry, whether you're selling the product on the trade show floor, maintaining it or installing it in the cockpit, it's all for the flight. Every pilot has a unique story, and "AEAviators" showcases them and reminds those in the avionics industry what it's all about.
