Bell Helicopter has worked with ASTRONICS CORP. to help integrate the Max-Viz-1500 enhanced vision system as an option for new Bell 429s as well as for retrofit installations.
SANDEL AVIONICS INC. announced Eurocopter will offer its SN4500 primary navigation displays and SA4550 primary attitude displays as optional equipment on EC135 helicopters. Sandel products are now offered in Eurocopter's Blue Book, as part of the mid-life efficiency package for new production EC135 models.
SIERRA INDUSTRIES announced a milestone in the Sierra/GARMIN avionics retrofit program, the FAA-certified G501SP has now received approval from Transport Canada. Canadian transport ministry acceptance SA11050SC-D makes it possible for Canadian Citation 501 owners and operators to benefit from the high-tech cockpit upgrade.
WEST STAR AVIATION announced its plans to consolidate and expand the service capabilities at East Alton, Ill., Grand Junction, Colo., and Columbia, S.C. This consolidation includes the sale of West Star's Dallas, Texas, facility to Waypoint Holding LLC. The Dallas, Texas, facility is the only location included in the sale.

General Aviation: A State-by-State Economic Impact Survey
The Alliance for Aviation Across America launched a wide-scale economic impact survey to outline the benefit of general aviation on businesses, local economies and communities around the nation. AEA Wired will highlight a different state each issue:

U.S. General Aviation Caucus Update
General Aviation Caucuses were formed in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate in 2009, to inform members and staff about the importance of GA to the nation's economy and transportation system. To date, more than 170 members of the U.S. Congress have signed on to the General Aviation Caucus. Click below to see if your elected representative is a member. As a result of employee furloughs due to sequestration, the Federal Aviation Administration is implementing traffic management initiatives at airports and facilities around the country. Travelers can expect to see a wide range of delays that will change throughout the day depending on staffing and weather-related issues. For example, the FAA is experiencing staffing challenges at the New York and Los Angeles En Route Centers and at the Dallas-Ft. Worth and Las Vegas TRACONs. Controllers will space planes farther apart so they can manage traffic with current staff, which will lead to delays at airports including DFW, Las Vegas and LAX. The FAA also expects delays at Newark and LaGuardia because of weather and winds. More...
History tells us when it comes to developing and implementing large-scale modernization programs, the FAA doesn't have the best track record. Paula Derks gave the annual AEA State of the Association address on Tuesday, March 26, at the 56th AEA International Convention & Trade Show in Las Vegas, Nev.
During her speech, Derks applauded the work ethic of the AEA member companies during the industry's depressed economy in the last few years and said, "We are still here, and we are all still working." A continuing theme of the speech noted that despite the recent challenges faced by the general aviation industry, the hard work of staying in business and finding innovative ways to keep the doors open did not stop. The speech also set the tone for the rest of the week during the convention, and many AEA members shared their best practices and ideas that are working for their respective companies. AEA members are invited to share their stories and what's working for them in this Member Feedback Survey.
In addition, Derks announced the brand new AEA Avionics Market Report. This report was created to reflect the dollar value of the avionics market. No such market report has previously existed.

AEA Names Kevin Bruce New Regulatory Consultant for CanadaKevin Bruce, director of airworthiness and quality for Diamond Aircraft, has been appointed as the new Aircraft Electronics Association regulatory consultant for Canada. At Diamond Aircraft, Bruce is currently responsible for regulatory matters concerning Diamond's operations as well as all airworthiness and quality functions.
He replaces John Carr, who retired as the AEA Canada regulatory consultant following this year's AEA International Convention & Trade Show. More... |
