From all of us here at Alliance of Disability Advocates, we'd like to wish everyone
happy-holidays-header3.jpg
We'd like to thank our staff, board, consumers, and supporters of our mission.

A BIG thank you to all of our subscribers for supporting our first year of publishing a newsletter to keep our community in the know. We can't wait to share more about consumer success and the impact the Independent Living Philosophy has on people with disabilities!
Success Stories
Feeling Empowered and Accomplished!
One of our consumers really kicked it into gear and became serious about achieving his goals this month! He started our program with two goals; to apply for Social Security Disability and get enrolled in a curriculum to earn his Peer Support Specialist certification.

He accomplished both this month! ADANC staff met with him to get the paperwork for both goals squared away. This consumer is now in a 10-week program to become a Peer Support Specialist and has sent in all his paperwork for SSDI. We are so proud of him and cannot wait to see his achievements in the future!

Travel Training Success

One consumer was excited to start Travel Training again after 8 months of staying home. She was persistent to learn how to travel and practice social distancing.

She learned the process of entering from the rear door and was happy to learn buses are not charging to ride. During her first session, her travel trainer empowered her to master the Route 70x Brier Creek Express bus.

The next step is for the travel trainer to shadow the consumer to assess her skills.
Board Spotlight
This month, we'd like to give a special shoutout to one of our newest board members, Ali Ingersoll. She has provided invaluable resources and passion to our board and staff. Thank you for your dedication and service to the Disability Community!
Ali Ingersoll is a day trader, consultant, disability advocate, writer, blogger, editor, and public speaker. She started her advocacy mission after repeatedly being denied medically necessary equipment by insurance companies over the last 10 years, since becoming a C6 quadriplegic and full-time wheelchair user resulting from a shallow water diving accident.

Ali’s passion lies in coaching people with disabilities on how to improve their quality of life by teaching them to self-advocate in order to live a life of independence, dignity, and grace.

Ali has a firm philosophy of paying it forward by giving back to the community through outreach, working together, and building each other up. She believes it’s important to band together as one in order to affect the greatest change on the national stage and in local communities.
COVID-19
Governor Roy Cooper announced that North Carolina will begin a Modified Stay at Home Order which requires people to stay at home between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., and will be in place until at least January 8, 2021.

Travel to and from work; to obtain food, medical care, fuel, or social services; or to take care of a family member is exempted.

Amazon Smile
Consider ADANC and the individuals with disabilities we support this Holiday season. Shopping through Amazon Smile grants a donation to the agency for each purchase. Every little bit counts and when hundreds of supporters shop online, these donations quickly add up.
Help us create new programs and services that empower people who experience a disability to live independently and inclusively in our community.
