Drawing from the insights shared in an article featured on CSU's website, we spotlight the transformative work of Daniel Madrid, ACOF's Family and Children's Specialist, who also supervises College Corps Program. Madrid's role as a College Corps site supervisor, family, and children’s specialist, and data analyst at A Community of Friends (ACOF) exemplifies the profound impact of bridging academic communities with our mission to end homelessness.
Daniel reflects on his personal and professional journey, stating, “I was a product of Cal State LA and East LA Community College, and I was very proud of that—I still feel connected to that environment and to the culture. When I took on my role at A Community of Friends, I saw that the students from these colleges would be a light of hope that would encourage the children we serve.” Under his guidance, the family and children’s program at ACOF has thrived, with College Corps students extending beyond academic tutoring to serve as mentors and sources of inspiration for ACOF’s youngest residents.
This collaborative venture not only provides College Corps students with invaluable hands-on experience in social services and education but also offers new pathways for the children at ACOF. Daniel Madrid's dedication to connecting ACOF with the academic vigor of local colleges showcases the impactful role of community engagement and optimism in our mission to support the 630 children among ACOF's 2,700 tenants.
