A Letter From Jamila

Dear Carly,

As Black History Month comes to a close, I want to make sure you have checked out our "Local Legends" series on social media. There are heroes all around us, and this series highlights talented Black men and women, living and working in our West Philadelphia neighborhood.

As we continue celebrating our West Philadelphia neighborhood, we invite you to join us for ACHIEVEability's first-ever Impact Day 2024. We're leveraging our community and corporate partners, donors, volunteers, participants, residents, and sponsors to help create a rising and thriving West Philadelphia for all.

We will have over 500 volunteers onsite to execute several projects such as opening our community garden for the 2024 season, painting homes, building planter boxes, helping small businesses (interior painting, organizing, window display updates), block beautification and much more! We will finish the day with a celebratory lunch. Martin Luther King Jr. once said,

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is,

what are you doing for others?"

Impact Day is an opportunity to do something for others. And not just anyone. You are giving back to the ACHIEVEability Village, and we promise you'll have fun as well! Learn more and get involved at Impact Day 2024.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Warm Regards,

Jamila Harris-Morrison
Executive Director

Partner Spotlight:

LLR Partners

We are delighted to highlight our partnership with LLR Partners, a local private equity firm that has been contributing to ACHIEVEability's mission since 2020. Our partnership is win-win as we collaborate on multiple levels to foster a vibrant community.

LLR's commitment to our mission to end poverty for Philadelphia families exemplifies the power of cross-sector partnerships. They have given enthusiastically by investing in our work, volunteering in our neighborhood and helping strengthen our organization's infrastructure. LLR doesn't just support our transformative programming, their team has given sweat equity by beautifying our corridor, helping to paint a mural, tending to our community garden, donating over 100 backpacks and supplies to support our children and sharing their expertise to improve our marketing and financial processes. It's a special thing when you find a partner that both understands the work and is willing to get their hands dirty - and LLR is just that.

We have continued to deepen our partnership with LLR through support of our TechUp job training program. The innovative program trains residents for a family sustaining wage career as Salesforce Administrators. LLR Partners Managing Director, Michael Sala has been a part of our workgroup since last fall where he helps with curriculum design and mentors' participants and is assisting us in securing employer partners for job placement. Michael recently organized and hosted our 12-person cohort onsite at their offices in the Cira Cira building for a professional development focused on the job search process, interview preparation, goal setting, and real-world applications of Salesforce. Reflecting on the experience, Sala shared, "What really stood out to the LLR team was how engaged and excited the participants were (even those who said they're introverts!). They were not afraid to ask questions, and truly wanted to learn and use what they learned to pursue a job where they can apply their new [Salesforce] skills. We were so impressed and grateful for the opportunity to share best practices that can give them a step up in finding a meaningful career path."

Sala sees ACHIEVEability's TechUp program as a unique opportunity to transfer the knowledge LLR uses daily to a new generation of talent. We look forward to taking our partnership to new heights and we thank the whole LLR Partners team for their generosity and support.

Partner Spotlight:

Operation HOPE

Operation HOPE is a newly minted partner, starting January 2024. Operation shares our commitment to expanding economic opportunity and disrupting inequitable systems that prevent people from prospering. A key avenue to achieve these goals is building generational wealth.

Operation Hope Financial Wellbeing Coach, Melissa Mitchell, is will be offering bi-monthly workshops to West Philadelphia residents on building and protecting your credit.

When asked about her workshop experiences thus far, Mitchell beamed, "Witnessing the eagerness of participants to learn about increasing their credit scores, boosting savings, and reducing debt," has been a source of inspiration.
