Join Us in Welcoming the New Summer 2023 Certificants!

ACHA accepts Portfolios and Letters of Recommendation throughout the year as part of the application process. Eight Summer Certificants are the first to join the Class of 2023, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome them to ACHA. These new Certificants truly represent the values, leadership qualities, and expertise in healthcare architecture. We look forward to integrating their added perspectives and ideas into ACHA’s ongoing conversation about healthcare architecture, helping to bolster innovation and collaboration amongst our peers. Highlights of the Summer Leadership Summit (SLS)

The 2023 Summer Leadership Summit (SLS), held in Chicago in July and co-organized by ACHA and AIA Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH), was one for the books! This year’s topic, Re-Writing the Playbook for Transforming the Crisis in Healthcare, centered on the current healthcare dilemmas including caregiver shortages, overwhelmed medical facilities, and public health. In addition to insightful presentations from industry leaders, there were ample networking opportunities.

During SLS, we held our second annual ACHA Referral Prize Drawing, won by Certificant Marc Rowland, who submitted referrals to people who are eligible for ACHA certification. A prize of $325 was awarded for SLS registration fee for next year. We are grateful for all those who participated in this year’s drawing and for all the nominations we received! Your referrals will help us to continue our outreach to healthcare architects who may qualify for Certification. 

ACHA and AIA-AAH recognized our Next Generation Scholarship Recipients, Kristina Bertocchi and Winston Yuen. Both of this year’s scholarship winners demonstrated an impressive commitment to shaping the future of healthcare design. They received complimentary registration to SLS and an invitation to our ACHA luncheon. Congratulations to these up-and-coming healthcare design leaders! It was a pleasure to welcome you to SLS!

Next Up: Healthcare Design Conference + Expo, November 4-7, 2023

This year’s Healthcare Design Conference (HCD) is filled with ACHA participation, as an impressive 50 Certificants will present on a session or workshop panel! From discussions on achieving health equity to evidence-based design for behavioral and mental health, there will be no shortage of crucial research and insight covered throughout the conference.

During HCD, ACHA will also host a Certification Prep Seminar on Sunday, November 5th from 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM CDT. This seminar will provide tips on how to submit an application, create a portfolio, and prepare for the ACHA exam. Seasoned Certificants will lead the seminar and cover application materials, exam topics, sample questions, scoring criteria, and exam schedules. Advanced registration is required. 

Applicant Advice: Considering Applying for Certification in 2024?

Each year, applications are due on April 1st. Applicants have the choice to either submit their Portfolio and references at the time of applying or anytime throughout the year, either before or after taking the qualification exam. Our “Portfolio Submission” page on our website is a great resource for viewing sample portfolios, outlines of requirements, and much more.
