Northern and Regional Economic Development Program


Alberta is strengthening its judiciary with the appointment of two new assistant chief justices and three justices to the Alberta Court of Justice. This move enhances access to justice across various regions, addressing civil, criminal, and family matters more efficiently. This update aligns with ACC's policy "Increase Small Claims Court Limit and Increase Access to Justice."

$2 Billion Investment Launches Clean Hydrogen Facility in Fort Saskatchewan's Industrial Heartland


A $2-billion clean hydrogen and atmospheric gases facility is set to be constructed in Fort Saskatchewan's Industrial Heartland. This project, spearheaded by Linde, will supply clean hydrogen energy to Dow's Path2Zero Project. The facility is expected to create 750 temporary construction jobs and 60 permanent jobs.

Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) Program Changes


Minister Randy Boissonnault announced new measures to reduce reliance on the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) Program due to its misuse. Effective September 26, 2024, the government will deny Labour Market Impact Assessments in regions with high unemployment and cap TFW employment at 10% per employer, with certain sector exceptions. This strategy aims to prioritize Canadian workers and address labour market shortages authentically, aligning with economic needs and fostering investment in domestic workforce skills. These changes do not align with ACC's policy "Meeting Labour Needs by Attracting & Retaining International Students."
