Pastor John Berry, pastor of Lakeview Terrace Baptist Church, wrote this letter to his congregation:
Dear members and friends,
It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Pastor Alton G. Rozar. Born in Macon, Georgia, Alton's passion for preaching was evident from a young age. As a teenager, he would attend multiple church services to hear different preachers and then imitate them at home. His natural talent for public speaking made it clear to all who knew him that he was destined for the ministry.
After graduating high school in 1952, Alton joined the Navy, where he discovered a keen interest in electronics. His dedication led to a successful career in the field, working for renowned companies like Boeing Aircraft and Litton Industries. Despite his professional success, the call to ministry persisted, and he eventually surrendered to it, earning a BA in Ministry from Life Bible College.
In 1976, Alton was called to pastor Lake View Terrace Baptist Church, where he became known as the "Teaching, Preaching" Rozar. He was a hands-on pastor, often seen cutting grass, trimming bushes, or helping in the kitchen. Under his leadership, the church flourished, growing from 30 members to nearly 400 and establishing numerous impactful ministries.
Pastor Rozar was known for his simplicity, clarity, and love for his congregation. He had a special place in his heart for children, always ensuring they felt welcome and cherished. One of his favorite verses was Philippians 1:6, which he lived out through his steadfast faith and dedication.
Alton's legacy is love, service, and firm faith in God. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Trudie, and their three children. We are grateful for his profound impact on our lives and the community. He will be deeply missed, but his teachings and spirit will continue to inspire us.
In gratitude to God Almighty for all His goodness, we celebrate the life of Pastor Alton G. Rozar, giving Him all the praise.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor John K. Berry
