Dr. Megan Sprinkle Launches AAVN Podcast

Dr. Megan Sprinkle has been preparing for this day for some time now – launching her own podcast! Based on our need to bring to AAVN newsletter readers some interesting content, we asked Megan if she would interview individuals who are expanding their nutrition-related knowledge and skills. She began her quest with a short list of AAVN members who have recently published their research findings or worked on a new textbook.

Click here to listen to Megan’s first interview with Dr. Ken Lambrecht.

About Dr. Ken Lambrecht
Dr. Ken Lambrecht is a veterinarian and small business owner with 35 years of experience in small animal preventive veterinary medicine. He is a current board member of the AAVN, the American Association of Feline Practitioners, and the Veterinary Cooperative. Previously, he served on the boards of the American Animal Hospital Association, Marketlink, and the Pet Nutrition Alliance.

Recently, in collaboration with Dr. Theresa Bernardo and Dr. Barr Hader at the Ontario Veterinary College, Dr. Lambrecht published research looking at in-home technology designed to help with pet weight management. Results of this research project were presented at the 2020 AAVN Symposium (see abstract link), and the investigators have launched a new start-up pet technology company that was selected to be in the VMX 2021 ‘Start-Up Circle’.

If you like this new format and want to offer feedback, we’d love to hear from you (especially if you have positive comments!). More than anything, we are looking for additional AAVN members that Megan can speak with, so consider this an open invitation to sign up for a future podcast interview.

Utilizing Veterinary Technicians for Nutritional Management
Ashley Self, BS, LVMT, VTS (Nutrition)

This talk is designed for veterinarians and support staff (veterinary technicians, office managers, etc.) who are interested in utilizing veterinary technicians in nutritional management of patients visiting veterinary practices.

Speaker Ashley Self, BS, LVMT, VTS (Nutrition) will review the importance of credentialed veterinary technicians, the value of appropriate use of veterinary technicians, how to leverage a veterinary technician in nutrition management, and how to empower the veterinary technicians that are interested in advanced nutrition skills and knowledge.

Ashley Self, BS, LVMT, VTS (Nutrition) is currently a veterinary nurse on the nutrition service at the University of Tennessee’s College of Veterinary Medicine and has been on the nutrition service for the past 9 years. Ashley passed her certifying exam to become a veterinary nutrition technician specialist in 2018. In the future she plans to continue her education in equine nutrition and bring nutrition education to the veterinary team, focusing on veterinary nurses.
