A Message from the Executive Director

Members, We've just launched our Best of Our Abilities & Centenarian Competitions! If you have not already done so, please recognize someone special from your Supportive Living Program community. AALC’s annual Best of Our Abilities and Centenarian Competitions give us the chance to spotlight the members of your community who are making a positive difference and celebrate the lives of those seniors who have hit the century mark! For the Best of Our Abilities contest, submit a photo and a brief paragraph summarizing the reason for nominating them. Feel free to submit more than one entry! We want to hear about all your residents who are changing your communities and making a difference! Likewise, submit a photo of your oldest resident along with their birth date, and a bit of information about their lifelong accomplishments. Let’s make sure these individuals get the recognition they deserve for living such an outstanding and long life! Submit your entries by no later than November 12th! Legislative Update Last week the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services issued a report on nursing home payments with recommendations for reform pursuant to 305 ILCS 5/5-2.10.  HFS' position is that the nursing home payment rate mechanism, quality metrics, and staffing requirements can and should be updated in conjunction with any new or additional appropriated funding, and federal funding should be captured to improve these areas through an increase in the current nursing home bed tax. Since SLP rates are statutorily linked to nursing home rates, AALC is meeting with Legislative Leadership regarding the skilled nursing assessment and potential rate reform with the goal of protecting and strengthening the supportive living facility Medicaid reimbursement.  Legislative Leadership has indicated strong support for the supportive living industry’s request to maintain our statutory link to skilled nursing Medicaid rates and the lobbying team is working diligently to ensure that our collective interests are advanced even though the timeline and specifics remain very fluid at the Illinois General Assembly. Member Appreciation!  In addition to our 137 Supportive Living Program community members, AALC is proud to have 47 vendor members involved in our important work to advance the Supportive Living sector.
