FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - April 21, 2023

The African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey Training and Development Institute creates job opportunities with the help of the NJ State Police Department

(The African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (AACCNJ) Training and Development Institute held Security Officer Registration Act (SORA) training in Mercer County. The training is 2-days of interactive instruction to become a NJ Certified Security Officer to secure employment in educational, commercial, retail and other business entities. AACCNJ partnered with the Secured Security Systems Training Academy in the second of a series of trainings targeting communities in Mercer, Passaic, Burlington, and Essex counties.

John Harmon, Founder, President and CEO of AACCNJ announced with gratitude, “We were pleased with the participation and the opportunity to invest in the lives of this amazing and talented group of individuals. Through our partnership with the New Jersey State Police, these individuals will have the potential opportunity to transform their future trajectory.”

The training was brought to successful completion with 22 participants with the help of the NJ State Police (NJSP) who assisted with easing the electronic application process with one on one applicant support. NJSP also provided overviews of the importance of SORA certification and potential growth in the field.

Colonel Patrick J. Callahan, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police, mentioned the training's success with a few words, “The strongest relationships are often forged during challenging times, as is the case with the bond between the New Jersey State Police and the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey. The members of the State Police Private Detective Unit overcame the registration issues encountered during the SORA training by remaining on site to ensure that everyone had access to the online system. I look forward to continuing this partnership with President John E. Harmon Sr. and the entire AACCNJ as we continue to provide equal opportunities to members of all communities.”

Owner of the Secured Security Systems Training Academy, Russell Morgan, did an excellent job engaging all candidates with his constructive criteria, who left with hope and dedication to continue their careers as new and improved SORA Officers. Our certified instructor Russell Morgan embodies the slogan “We Train! We Protect! You Survive!” as a mantra for excellence in his training cohorts.

This second in series SORA training is one tool that TDI is using throughout the state to empower NJ residents with tools for economic prosperity. One of our recently trained officers spoke about the impact that this training has on her and her family: “I would like to thank AACCNJ (Gene Bouie, Vivian Harmon and Semaj Biggers), along with instructor Russell Morgan, NJSP and additional guest speakers. This SORA Training class presented us with not only the necessary knowledge, but the skill-set that is essential for the needed progress in our professional careers in the Security Officer Industry. I look forward to future training opportunities AACCNJ has to offer. Thank you so much!”

Vivian Harmon, Sr. Director at TDI remarked “this SORA training and others to come are our investment in increasing the capacity of our communities to meet workforce needs and to improve their quality of life. It is an honor to serve our people in meaningful ways”. Gene Bouie, Executive Director at TDI said, “This training is the perfect example of how the TDI tiered-strategy of people, partnership and policy can deliver opportunities for members of communities in which there are high poverty rates, and instances of hopelessness to be positively impacted. It is through authentic partnerships which enable us to deliver transformative training opportunities to the people that need it most. TDI collaborated with AACCNJ Chamber member businesses and the NJ State Police to provide life changing training.”
