Campus News
A celebratory spirit fills the air on campus as finals week has arrived and we look toward honoring our graduates at the Baccalaureate and Commencement Ceremonies this weekend.
Recently we commemorated exceptional milestones and service from our faculty and staff at an annual recognition event. In addition, at the Honors Banquet on April 26, we celebrated student awards and achievements with more than 100 people in attendance. My congratulations to all of this year’s honorees!
Furthermore, we recently received the news that Head Lacrosse Coach Tucker LaBelle earned co-coach of the Year from the Heart of America Athletic Conference, and one of his players, Doug Powless, earned the Men’s Lacrosse Newcomer of the Year Award. Indeed, Clarke has much to celebrate.
As I’ve noted many times, campus is always buzzing with activity, and last week was no exception. For example, we hosted 7th graders from Freeport, Illinois, Middle school as part of a college and career readiness course they are taking. True to Clarke’s mission, we will continue community outreach over the summer with our various summer camp opportunities for learners of all ages.
And because summer is approaching, my updates will be shared monthly, as was the case last summer.
Strategic Plan Update
Over the last 12 months, we have developed and implemented many initiatives connected to our Strategic Plan, and we look forward to seeing the impact they have. This work is ongoing, and I am grateful for all of the work the Strategic Planning Committee has done and continues to do!
Goal 3 of our plan focuses on sustaining institutional vitality. And, as a result of the growth trend of our incoming classes and enhanced new student onboarding program, the Admissions Office is in the process of hiring a new Admissions Counselor. We are confident that this addition will positively impact the Clarke student experience.
In addition, given the rising prices of necessities for day-to-day living and the unforeseen uncertainties regarding enrollment and retention caused by delayed FASFA and Iowa Tuition Grant processes, we have paused some of the more extensive renovation plans that were scheduled to take place this summer.
