"Audiobooks: An Explosion of Sound!"
From its humble beginnings in 1931, when the American Foundation of the Blind and the Library of Congress established the Talking Book Program, the audiobook has evolved into a major branch of publishing. Technology has played a significant role in its development, starting in the 1950s when record companies began distributing albums for books. The invention of the cassette tape in 1963 allowed audiobooks to become more accessible. Fast forward to 2002, when CDs changed the market and ruled… until digital downloads showed up. Back in 2009, approximately 4,600 audiobooks were recorded, and in 2021 approximately 74,000 audiobooks were recorded. Not only an explosion of sound, but of sales! Follow this NYTimes bestselling author as she helps us navigate the brave new world of audiobook production!

"The World's Thickest Skulls: Records & Anecdotes about Rejection"
Rejection. The bane of our profession. Those emails, or in the old days, slips of paper, which discourage writers, make them question why they bother, and may even cause them to abandon their dreams. Some don’t even get this far. Sometimes people are so reluctant to risk rejection they don’t send their stories out, or even allow another person to read them. Obviously, determining the number of rejections isn’t as objective as something like a major league player’s home runs, or an element’s atomic weight, or how many number one hit records a musician had. Presumably, an author could save every rejection letter, and produce them if necessary, but I’m relying on their honesty, and the honesty of the websites that reported most of these. Join Paul as he uncovers some of the craziest and most interesting rejections of all time!

Ignatius Fernandez -
"Are We Communicating Effectively?"
“What we are communicates more eloquently than anything we say or do.” Stephen R Covey
A job applicant was told to complete a form. One question in it read: "Length at residence?" He wrote: "About 30 feet." He figured that the question was on dimensions, because meanings are found less in words, but more in person, and the way they interpret those words. After all, words are only the attire that thoughts wear, and, if that is the case, then thoughts define who we are. But, is our communication effective? Mr. Fernandez explores communication and how we can better utilize our abilities for good!

Rising Star Spotlight - Marc Sanderson!
Marc Sanderson’s love of stories grew up alongside his love of science and history. Unable to decide which was most fascinating, he studied science, literature, history, education and law, all of which pop up in his writing along with romance and fantasy. A writer of contemporary romances, his stories often have ecological themes throughout them, and balance well with the romance, adventure, and sometimes suspense! To learn more about this Rising Star, look for our interview with him in our upcoming magazine release!

S.L. Carpenter -
"The Reviews are in.... Or are they???"
You’ve had one of those days when you were actually surprised they didn’t fit you for a straitjacket and show you politely into a nice, padded room. Your stress levels have been through the roof, and no amount of alcohol or chocolate could have eased your mind, even though you bravely gave them both a try.
Time to binge read.
As you finally delve into the pages, you get rapidly drawn into the imaginary world created by the writer. Sometimes it can be genuinely addictive, and you binge read a book in a day or less. Other times it takes you longer, savoring each page, but either way, you end up finishing it.
And once you’ve reached “The End”, you start asking yourself “How was it?”, “Did I enjoy myself?”, “Will I reread this book and buy another from this author?” Enjoy S.L.'s fun and creative twist on reviews while getting some very important information in the mix!

"Typography and Fun With Fonts"
One of the many reasons that authors choose to self-publish is the control they retain over the appearance of their book. Certainly, the cover has a big impact on setting the reader’s expectations. Mood, period, and subject can all be communicated through more than just words. Even without graphics, we can communicate all these characteristics with the use of appropriate fonts.
While I can wax poetic about body fonts (fonts used for the main text of your book), this month, we’ll jump into the fun side of typography and using display fonts for covers and chapter titles. Join Tamara as she has some fun with fonts and how to best use them for maximum benefit!

On the Path to the Gods, all is aligned perfectly, each step laid out for individuals to follow. Or not. Not all become gods. Some chose to become Demons, not wanting to follow the Laws of the Gods. Some fall short, becoming Minions. From time unremembered, the Oracles have prophesied of a Leveler. One who would make all that is, right and true. Except, few gods believe it is needed. All *is* right and true. They rule with elements, manipulations, and technology.
But, the omens and portents have lined up, The Leveler has come. And she is Mortal, with no memory beyond her current existence. None expected this, especially not her. She is not ready. Or is she? Can her inner self remember who she really is, before it is too late? All is not as it seems. And it should. Not. Be.

A Siren Song in Jenns Cove (A Jenns Cove Romance Book 3)
Marc Sanderson
Contemporary
Rhea Gallagher’s dream is getting ready to come true. Her band is on the verge of a record deal, which is great — until she finds out that she is not included. Not sure what to do next, Rhea heads home to Jenns Cove. Meanwhile, Cam Colton also returns to Jenns Cove to help his father after his stroke. He works for ESSI as a scuba instructor for the scientists that work there. He loves being back home. That is, until Rhea shows up. Rhea and Cam have been friends since childhood and dated in high school. In fact, they were inseparable. After a misunderstanding ends their relationship, they go years without speaking and the scars never heal. It seems impossible, but they need either to forgive or avoid each other at all costs.
With depictions of young love, heartbreak, and the power of forgiveness, “A Siren Song” will capture the heart of readers everywhere! It is so wonderful to pick up with familiar characters and meet new ones. Rhea’s devotion to music is inspirational and shows how music can also help one heal or work through pain. Cam is passionate, but he lets his anger get the best of him. However, he learns from his past mistakes that contribute to his character development. A few moments are a little repetitive. Despite that, the pace flows perfectly and it is difficult to put down. The themes of family, love and forgiveness are just beautiful. This book is the third book in the series, but it doesn't matter if readers start with book one or with this one -- they will not want to pass over this series!

The Unassuming Curator
Sian Ann Bessey
Historical
Emily Norton travels from her family’s country estate to London for her debut into Society. Her family has high hopes she will charm the ‘ton.’ However, Emily would rather stay in her room and read books all day, especially books on unladylike topics such as science and nature. Partaking in Society’s Season is not on her list of things she might enjoy. Then a chance meeting with a gentleman digging flowers along a hedgerow gives her hope of surviving the stresses of London Society. He is enigmatic and charming, and best of all, he is curator at the Natural History Museum. Henry enjoys his curator position at the museum far more than he likes dealing with Society’s shallow ladies. Plus he worries his secret medical condition will scare away potential ladies. Then he meets Emily.
Who knew science, nature and museums could be so fun! Emily is infatuated by Henry the moment she spots him at the hedgerow. She is not so enamored with Society’s bachelors who come to call upon her. Enter Aunt Millward. Every reader will want such an aunt as her! What an amazing and intuitive woman she is. Aunt Millward champions Emily and Henry and firmly cements herself into the fibers of the story. The book could have used more conflict to spice up the plot. However, the minimal conflict is the only drawback to this otherwise charming story. “The Unassuming Curator” boasts very believable, fully fleshed, multi-dimensional characters and fantastic creativity. Seriously, fans of historical fiction will absolutely want to grab this book!
