JULY 29TH, 2020
“Patience is the calm acceptance that things can happen in a different order than the one you have in your mind.”

-David G. Allen
Anyone that knows me is fully aware of my dislike for spiders. Several of my friends will send me random text messages or a quick post on Facebook of large - gross - spiders, as a way of saying, "Hey, I've been thinking of you". (You know you who you are, shame on you!) Today my mind has drifted to the very thing I dislike so much. And today I feel we have more in common than one could imagine. Every night a spider will venture out to find the perfect location for their next masterpiece: their web. Some spiders choose the corner of an entryway next to the front porch light perhaps. Others choose to be down in the grassy areas of your yard. Some choose unwisely and select a location in my house. Once they reach their destination, they begin to weave a structure with one purpose: DINNER! No, this is not my commonality with the spider, although I do love food.

Where I sense similarities, is the careful and attentive effort put forth to build and create something of value. And where I grow empathetic to my eight-legged foe, is that with the brush of a hand, or a swoosh of a broom, or a twist of a global pandemic, all that work disappears. So to all the spiders out there that have had their hard work destroyed by some inconsiderate circumstance or a fearful 38 year old, my deepest apologies.

What happens next in this tiny creatures life is where I gather constructive advice from such a practical arachnid. A spider simply builds another web. They pick a new location and start over. They are patient with the process and don't stop building and creating something new each day. Hats off to you, Mr. Spider, and thank you for the very important reminder to be patient with the process and not give up.
Keep smiling, keep sanitizing, and stay safe!
