The PE Department is hosting a Walk-a-Thon to collect food items to make holiday baskets.

On Friday, October 21st our Physical Education staff is inviting staff and students to our WALK TO FEED A FRIEND WALK-A-THON.

We are asking students and staff to donate a canned good for a great cause. We will use the donations to make baskets for Middletown families before the Thanksgiving Day Holiday. Please help our community have a cheerful and thankful holiday.

4th and 5th graders will be dropping their donations and walking the track at 9:15. Let’s show our Islander Pride by wearing blue and white!!!!!

Let’s make it a special holiday season for everyone!!!

Water Bottles

Students should bring water bottles to school everyday.  Please be sure that the water bottles  seal tightly to avoid spills in the classroom.  Students may only have water in the classroom, other drinks like juice or gatorade will need to remain in their locker until lunch.  Thank you for your help with this!

A Note from Nurse Phillips

Birthday Celebrations & Food in the Classroom

Birthdays:

We feel every birthday is special and we celebrate birthdays each day on the morning announcements as well as recognition in the classrooms. Out of consideration for ALL our students, we ask you follow our MPS Health & Wellness Policy (#5110) and ask that you not send in edible treats for the class.

Other options to celebrate a birthday:

  • Donate a book to the class or school library in honor of your child
  • Send in non edible treats–festive pencils, stickers, fun erasers, colorful bracelets, etc.
  • Donate a plant to beautify the school grounds, such as flowers, bulbs, trees, or bushes
  • Donate a board game to be used for indoor recess or a jump rope, ball or outdoor games

Food in the Classroom:

We ask that you not send in any whole class snacks/holiday/birthday treats–anytime during the year. We have many students with various food sensitivities that we must be considerate of.

Please try to avoid sweet treats and candy as school snacks. Snacks should be “food to grow on” in accordance with Middletown Public Schools Health and Wellness Policy (#5110). Nutritious snacking is our goal as we teach our students about health and living well.

Thank you!

Nurse Phillips
