A death in the church family

It is with much sadness that we report the death of long time church member Flo Fairfield who passed away peacefully on January 16 at age 95.


A Memorial service will be held at Barrington Congregational Church, UCC on Monday, January 23rd at 10:30 a.m. followed by burial at Forest Chapel Cemetery, Nayatt Road Barrington, RI.  


Preceding the service will be visiting hours from 9 - 10 a.m. in the Smith-Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Ave Riverside, RI 02915.  


In lieu of flowers, donations to Barrington Congregational Church in memory of Flo would be greatly appreciated.

Flora N. (Maddocks) Fairfield

August 11, 1927 ~ January 16, 2023 (age 95)


Flora N. Fairfield 95, formerly of Barrington, RI died January 16, 2023. She was the wife of the late Richard T. Fairfield. They were married 66 years prior to his death in 2016. She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Bertha (Lewis) Maddocks.  


Flora was born and grew up in Millinocket, Maine and graduated from the University of Maine.  She later continued her education at Rhode Island College receiving her master’s degree. She lived in Barrington for 60 years before moving to Anchor Bay in Riverside, RI. She and Richard enjoyed spending summers at their cottage on Highland Lake in Falmouth, ME.


Flora was an elementary school teacher for 20 years in the Barrington Public Schools primarily teaching first grade at Sowams School and Hampden Meadows School. She was a past member of the Barrington Women’s Club where she enjoyed playing bridge. She was a member of the Barrington Congregational Church.  


Flora leaves a daughter, Gail DiPierro of Barrington, RI, and a son Scott Fairfield of Gibsonville NC. She was predeceased by two sons, Loran L. Fairfield, and Richard D. Fairfield. Flora also leaves six grandchildren, Chris, Alison, Jeffrey, Ryan, William, and Amanda and three great grandchildren, CJ, Zoe, and Zachary.


Visiting hours will be Monday January 23, 2023, from 9-10 a.m. at Smith Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Ave, Riverside, RI 02915. A Memorial service will be held at the Barrington Congregational Church, 461 County Road Barrington, RI at 10:30 a.m. followed by Burial at Forest Chapel Cemetery, Nayatt Road Barrington, RI.
