Hello Michael,

I believe that achieving broad-based prosperity for all Floridians is essential for our state's success.

One of the key factors in realizing this vision is ensuring that housing is affordable for everyone.

Housing costs often represent a significant portion of a household's budget, typically around one-third. When families can comfortably afford housing, they can start saving for important expenses like college tuition and retirement. This, in turn, leads to higher quality-of-life standards for everyone.

Unfortunately, Florida is currently facing a housing crisis. There is a shortage of available properties for sale and rent, which has driven up prices. This situation is exacerbated by the State of Florida's subsidies for housing purchases, which further increase demand and prices in an already undersupplied market.

Median income Florida families are struggling to afford basic housing, and this must change.

To address this issue, I propose that the State of Florida allow free market forces to determine housing values.

We must also end the practice of subsidizing housing purchases in an undersupplied market. Additionally, we should refrain from underwriting the construction of low income, government subsidized, high density, multi-family housing projects, especially when rents are already at an all-time high.

By making housing more affordable, we can ease the burden on families and enable them to cover other essential expenses.

It's time to restore Florida's reputation as a place where people come for sunshine and affordability!
