On February 21-22, Lowell's Annual WinterFest weekend will be back in downtown Lowell! Don't miss free ice-skating, live music, the Dick Rourke Memorial Soup Competition and so much more! Historic Deerfield presents the exhibition
Celebrating the Fiber Arts: The Helen Geier Flynt Textile Gallery, on display at the Flynt Center of Early New England Life (37 Old Main Street in Deerfield) through April 12. The exhibition showcases Historic Deerfield's collection of fashion, needlework, and domestic textiles. Considered one of the finest collections in America, it contains items dating from the late 17th century through the mid-20th century. Displays are set against the backdrop of four main fibers that created most textiles before the 20th century; silk, wool, cotton, and linen. Visitors can consider the aesthetic and practical choices made by people in Deerfield, the Connecticut River Valley, New England, England, and Europe.

PEM's special exhibition of
Jacob Lawrence: The American Struggle, created during the modern civil rights era. The
Harlem Gospel Choir performs in honor of MLK and many notable events are celebrated throughout the city, including FREE museum admissions. The
Boston Symphony Orchestra entertains all season long, while the city's jazz clubs ward off the winter blues. For those who enjoy the "grape,"

Opening January 11 and running through February 8, the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod will host the winter art exhibit
"Heroes & Villains" at Cotuit Center for the Arts. The interactive exhibit will feature artists' interpretation of this theme - literally and figuratively! The exhibit visit is accompanied by a hands-on workshop in the Art Barn, where children can create their own piece inspired by the exhibition. Later in January, brighten up your winter in a sea of vibrant blooms at the annual
Cape & Islands Orchid Show and Sale January 25-26 at The Resort & Conference Center of Hyannis. This year's theme is "All That Orchid Jazz!"

Black Refractions: Highlights from The Studio Museum in Harlem surveys close to a century of creative achievement by artists of African descent, including Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Maren Hassinger, Norman Lewis, Kerry James Marshall, Faith Ringgold, Lorna Simpson, James VanDerZee, and Kehinde Wiley. The
Smith College Museum of Art is the only venue in the Northeast that is presenting this landmark exhibition. Opening on January 17.

Come celebrate the 200th birthday of Susan B. Anthony, born in the town of Adams in western Massachusetts, who fought for sexual equality and social justice. A Black & Red Gala Happy 200th Birthday Susan B Anthony event will be held Saturday February 15. On Sunday February 16, the Birthday Celebration continues at the Adams Free Library, when Anthony family descendants will perform suffrage music and a song written in tribute to Susan B. Anthony.

Kimsooja: Archive of Mind is on view at Peabody Essex Museum until January 20th. Kimsooja's work transforms simple, everyday actions into moments of meditation and transcendence.
Archive of Mind is a participatory installation that, with visitor collaboration, builds over the course of the exhibition.

The Berkshires

Jacob's Pillow, known for its summer dance festival, also hosts numerous events year-round! Their winter-spring lineup includes a dynamic performance installation centered on the life and writings of W.E.B. Du Bois by Zaccho Dance Theatre (February 22). Co-presented with MASS MoCA, they present Vuyani Dance Theatre's Cion: Requiem for Ravel's Bolero in February, and a March 21 work-in-progress performance of Deep Blue Sea by Bill T. Jones, Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Peter.
