Lunch With Friends - On the Radio
JFS Senior Services Coordinator Laurie and Business Development Director Judy were live on the "Getting Ahead In Business" show on Fox Sports New Jersey. On the January 22 episode, Laurie did a Q&A session with host Milton Paris about the JFS Lunch With Friends Program. Talking about the long term benefits of the congregate meal program, Laurie said, "We know there’s a real positive correlation between strong social networks and interactions and good mental and physical health."

"With Lunch With Friends, we can provide seniors with opportunities to develop and strengthen social networks that ultimately, we know, help seniors be happy, healthy, and productive during their retirement so that they can stay in their homes and avoid or delay mental and physical decline. Also, when I talk to people in the group, I can identify if anyone is struggling with hunger or food insecurity, or any other social or physical health care need that they have, and I can link them with a service."

You can listen to the full interview with Laurie and Judy here. The JFS segment starts around the 11:38 minute mark.

As Laurie notes, while JFS receives some funding from the County and Jewish Federation, rising costs are not fully covered. Your contributions help us ensure that seniors are eating well and staying connected. Click here to donate. Thank you!
Medicare General Enrollment - Now Open
You can enroll in Medicare in the three months prior to your 65th birthday as well as the three months following it. But what happens if you miss that initial enrollment period? Every year from January 1 through March 31, the Medicare General Enrollment period opens for traditional Medicare. This doesn't include Medicare Advantage plans, however. Watch "SMP Episode 6 - Types of Medicare" for some general information about the differences.

Still confused? You're not the only one! That's why the federally funded State Health Insurance Assistance Programs (SHIPs) are standing by to answer your questions. The JFS SHIP is a free service to help Medicare beneficiaries better understand insurance options. Give us a call at 732-777-1940 for questions about general enrollment, how to choose a plan, and more.
JFS is hiring part-time drivers to help transport senior adults, including Holocaust survivors, to medical appointments and agency events, as well as to help with Kosher Meals on Wheels deliveries. Please visit our employment opportunities page for more information; email office@jfsmiddlesex.org for questions or to apply.
