Bringing Families Closer Together This Holiday Season
The Cypress team would like to send all of our community partners warm, happy greetings this December. Whether you’re trimming a tree or lighting a menorah, we hope the holidays bring you peace, joy, and love.
Learning to enjoy the holidays while continuing to provide care to your aging loved ones can create unique obstacles. Check out these tips below to assist you in creating new traditions while maintaining some holiday cheer!
Alcohol/Drug Abuse Awareness Month
December is Alcohol/Drug Abuse Awareness Month. Drug addiction and overuse is a growing problem for older adults. As people age, they are more likely to experience serious pain. Opioids are often prescribed to help manage that pain, but because kidney and liver function slow with age, the drugs are not carried out of the body as effectively. The addition of memory issues can create a large risk factor for addiction or overdose.
Prevent Dependence, Addiction & Overdose:
  • Review the drugs you or your loved ones are taking and know about the risks involved. Don't forget about over the counter (OTC) medications and supplements.
  • Keep an up-to-date list of prescriptions, OTC medications, and supplements to show every medical provider and pharmacist you visit.
  • If you need a place to safely dispose of drugs, the Arizona Crime Association lists disposal information.
