SCC is Taking to the Cinema!
Over the next month, SCC will be working with a videographer to film a series of vignettes to tell our story in a visual, nonverbal way. We would be thrilled to have our members, participants and friends be a part of the cast! Some of the roles will pay a stipend of up to $100.

You're Invited: SCC Annual Summer Member Picnic

The 2016 SCC Annual Summer Member Picnic will be held on Thursday, September 15, beginning at 5 p.m. right here at SCC, 337 Somerville Avenue.The theme this year is Celebration. In addition to food, music and an emphasis on having fun, we will recount the many successes of the past year for Somerville residents, businesses and organizations.

New Somerville Jobs Trust Fund

On Tuesday, August 9, 2016, Governor Charlie Baker signed
Bill H.4303
, an Act establishing the Somerville Municipal Job Creation and Retention Trust.
SCC's Jobs for Somerville committee celebrated this critical step in the long-term process to create a Jobs Trust Fund. The fund
will link commercial real estate development to jobs creation and workforce development for the City's residents.

AmeriCorps Job Opening at SCC:
First Source Case Manager
|
The Somerville Community Corporation (SCC) and Local Initiatives Support' Corporation are seeking a full-time AmeriCorps member to serve as a First Source Program Case Manager. The candidate will ideally begin service on October 1, 2016, and serve a minimum of 1,700 hours though the end of his/her term on July 31, 2017.

This fall, the City of Somerville will attempt to address some development challenges through changes to the zoning code. It's also an important opportunity for our members to make sure that real community benefits are required in that code.

SCC and Partners to Redevelop North Street Property
|
In June 2016, a team comprised of SCC, Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) and Gate Residential was selected by the Somerville Housing Authority (SHA) to lead the redevelopment of the Clarendon Hill public housing on North Street in West Somerville. Originally built for veterans returning from war in the 1940s, Clarendon Hill has long outlasted its useful life. SHA is pursuing this redevelopment option to bring modern apartments and amenities to the existing residents.

Social Equity Campaign: The Contribution That Pays You

If you are planning to make a CITC eligible tax credit donation to Somerville Community Corporation this year, we would be very grateful to receive your contributions soon.
We are ramping up for the high season of the Social Equity Campaign. The Department of Housing and Community Development just announced that it has a number of additional Community Investment Tax Credits (CITCs) available to eligible CDC's.
