Dear Joan,
I have been a climate activist since 2017 working within different environmental groups here in NM. I am now a part-time staff attorney with the NM Environmental Law Center, using my legal skills to advance environmental justice. Any sane person at my age would not serve on two non-profit boards, as co-chair and vice-president, and work half time. But I have not been able to give up my work with NM & El Paso Region IPL. It feeds my soul in a different and very needed way to work with others coming from a spiritual and moral place to love and defend our mother earth. The opportunity to share the spiritual basis for our beliefs, dedication and work fulfills a thirst that I share with others -- to speak from a deeply held truth and tenderness for our Common Home.
Though this work is demanding and often discouraging, the depth of connections we are making with one another and with all creatures with whom we share this gift of life, is priceless and essential. As I inhabit many different environmental spaces, I am become increasingly aware of and grateful that NM & El Paso Region IPL plays a unique and much needed role in uplifting a voice of moral, spiritual, and relational groundedness and integrity.
As our organization enters a time of growth in this good work by adding to our team of staff members, I am privileged to be able to donate $2,000 to NM and El Paso Region IPL this June.
In sharing some of the reasons why I remain dedicated to this work, I am inviting you as you are able, to match my gift or give whatever you are able.
With our small but mighty team I look ahead to the future of our work with gratitude for the leadership that is present and the leadership to come, and I thank you for considering contributing to our work financially.
As our summer brings record-breaking heat, let us take heart that no broken record or un-met climate emission target changes the fact that we have the sacred responsibility and joy of being in community together with love and with care.
Warmly,
Ann McCartney
