Express the Love of Christ by Serving

and Caring for those in Need

Dear Martin,

We appreciate you as a client, volunteer, community partner, supporter, staff member, board meember, or friend. Thank you for all that you do to make our community better and thank you for doing it together with us!

We are entering into a season of gratitude. Thanksgiving. Appreciation. Expressing our heartfelt stories and telling people exactly how much they mean to us. Here at Lutheran Social Services, we have been collecting snippets of gratefulness that we will share from now until Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. The idea is simple: whether it’s complimenting someone, helping a neighbor out, visiting someone who is isolated, showing up for an issue or a stranger, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to contribute toward building the better world we all want to live in. This year, it falls on Nov. 28, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. On that day we will celebrate with An Evening of Gratitude hosted by Pastor Marta and Stefan Schmitt (see more below).

So let’s get started! Here are three recent expressions of gratitude:

  • Pastor Jeremy from Holy Spirit Lutheran Church after our Grand Opening at that location: “I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the entirety of this journey together. Today was a wonderful day, and I am grateful for the blessing of this relationship of working with you to help our community. You have helped us in such tremendous ways to help bring resources and relationship with our neighbors here in the NW part of Vegas. Thank you for listening in the first place, when we were dreaming this up. Thank you most certainly, for the ways you have brought those dreams to fruition in our city and our church. I am humbled and honored to be able to do this with you. Thank you for giving us the actionable programs to reach out in a way that really matters. I believe it is essential to church’s regaining integrity in their communities. I am forever grateful. Thank you for each of you, and the many ways you work together to accomplish so much for our community. I am excited for what’s ahead and continuing to work together with you in our city.”
  • From Roger who came in for assistance last Wednesday to our Boulder Highway location: “I am grateful to be alive, that I have a healthy body, and that there is a Lutheran group that can help me out during a time of need. I was able to come and get food without much effort and I appreciate that so much.”
  • From Councilman Cedric Crear (pictured below left): “It is not always the easiest process to go down [launching the new pantry location] but it is the right process. I want to thank you guys. As a lifelong resident of Las Vegas, I can say, it’s us in our community. It’s the people that make a difference. No great movement has ever happened in our society... waiting on the government. We as a people have to come and take ownership in our communities... to help our fellow brothers and sisters... and that is exactly what you guys are doing today. In support of that I want to give a thousand-dollar donation to LSSN and a thousand dollars to Holy Spirit Church.”

Consider submitting your own expression of gratitude! It only takes 2-3 minutes
