A Rising Star in Alsace

Paul Kubler Alsace Vineyard

Philippe Kubler is the third generation of winemakers who bottle wine under the label of Paul Kubler. Philippe's pedigree is impressive; he has a degree in oenology from Bordeaux and after that spent time with Denis Debordieu, probably the best known white wine consultant in Bordeaux. Afterwards he went to work in both  Burgundy and New Zealand before returning to Alsace.

Philippe works traditionally and Paul Kubler's wines have taken a huge leap forward in quality after he took over.  Philippe works organically, observing certain bio dynamic practices. He is not certified, and intends to remain so as he feels that his clients should be able to trust his integrity as a winemaker. He doesn't wish to be constrained by the impositions of certification bodies, or to pay for certification. All vines are picked by hand. Vinification takes place in old foudres. Philippe allows plenty of time on lees and uses battonage.

Kubler has a well constructed range of products where the entry line is denoted "K". They are generally at a very high level, and always rewarded with high scores by the French wine press.

Today's offering, the Paul Kubler Pinot Gris "K" 2011
is rich, yet elegant and balanced, perfectly expressing the varietal.  Luxurious without being sweet, this will make you a fan of Alsatian whites, as these are some of the best white wines in the world!

"Exotic bouquet of lychee, peaches, honey, clove and toasted almond. Lovely, creamy texture with hints of caramel, toasted bread, ripe pear, nectarines, ginger and cinnamon. Lightly off dry although masterfully balanced with a zesty acidity. Long, silky finish. An absolute delight."

Wine of the Week
Spirit of the Week
Cep d Or Cotes de Provence Rose Label
El Tesoro Anejo Tequila Label

Tasting Note:
"Exactly as it should be - aromatic, refreshing and easy to drink. A beautiful pink pastel color is the first good sign and the 2nd good sign clean aromatics suggestive of almond, cranberry and herbs de provence - let's say the next good sign is the empty bottle or two!"
Tasting Note:"Aromas of dill pickle, black olives, chocolate and coconut. Silky entry with full, balanced flavor with hints of caramel and vanilla from the oak, grilled pineapple, cinnamon and nutmeg. Smoky and minerally roasted agave on the finish with a touch of spice. A gorgeous sipping tequila."
