Greetings all, and welcome to the 2018 Stanford Men's Club season.
Beginning with our first tournament (the Red, White, Blue - still time to sign up!), Stanford Men's Club members will gain both participation and results points toward our year-end Ryder Cup style tournament. Thanks much to Tucker S. for proposing the format. We hope this both encourages tournament play and builds excitement toward the end of year competition.
Highlights are:
1. Two teams of 12 Club members (
Woods team vs.
Watson team) will face off in an exciting Ryder Cup format. There will be alternate shot, better ball, and singles matches.
2. Each member of the Men's Club that plays in a tournament throughout the year will be (randomly, but balanced by index) assigned to either the Woods Team or the Watson Team. For each of these two pools of players there will be 8 handicap brackets - you will only be competing for a spot with members of very similar handicaps. Handicap brackets will be established based on your June index. There will also be 4 "at large" members on each team for those with the strongest records who don't finish first in their bracket.
3. All tournaments that all members are able to participate in will count toward your Cardinal Cup ranking. Every tournament player gets points for participation, and there are points for event performance. All men's club events that all members are eligible for will count toward their ranking.
4. Prizes, glory, and trash-talking rights for qualifiers and the winning team!
5. So, play early and often in our tournaments and earn your spot on the Cardinal Cup squad!
Full rules and details will be posted on the board in the Men's Locker room and distributed during the Red White and Blue tournament on February 24th.
