Modern Corporate Offices
Today's designs support the desire for flexible and collaborative environments

Modern workplace environments require designs that offer flexibility, reliability, safety, comfort and energy efficiency. A good example is the new, $20-million, LEED Gold headquarters for Menasha Corporation - one of the oldest privately-held family companies in the U.S. The owners wanted a contemporary office that would meet the needs and demands of the growing company, so the 100,000-square-foot facility incorporates a flexible and open environment that includes space for collaborative work. The building also is modeled to perform 26.8 percent better than the ASHRAE 90.1-2007 baseline.

VOICE-FIRST TECHNOLOGY
The future of user interface in buildings

Several new advances in the consumer electronics industry point to a new day for voice-user interfaces, or VUI, which uses human speech for interacting with and controlling computers.

The revolutionary improvements in VUI come from two main areas of science: natural language processing (NPL) and machine learning, both of which are behind the growing popularity of two consumer products, Amazon Echo and Google Home. The eventual arrival of these advances in the building sector could vastly improve user interaction with the computerized technology behind modern building systems.

Learn more about VUI and how it could improve building technology interfaces.
