Psalm 90:14 – NIV

Dear Lori,

One of my favorite scriptures is Psalm 90. It teaches me about the contemplation of the eternal nature of God and the temporal nature of human life. It acknowledges the brevity and fragility of human existence in contrast to the everlasting nature of God. The psalmist expresses a sense of awe and humility before God, recognizing His power and justice. It emphasizes the need for wisdom and a proper perspective on life, acknowledging the transient nature of human life and the importance of seeking God's favor and guidance. The psalm concludes with a plea for God's mercy and a desire for His favor to be upon His people. Overall, Psalm 90 underscores the eternal nature of God and calls for a recognition of our mortality and dependence on Him.

Whenever I come to the last week of the year, I prefer reading and preaching on this passage. I have learned 4 points: (1) The limitations of human life, (2) Look back at the past, (3) Acknowledge the present, and (4) Look forward to the future.

I express my perpetual gratitude to the Lord for His providential care and abundant grace extended to me and our ministry throughout the preceding year. However, I have consistently harbored a sense of dissatisfaction regarding my performance in my role, as my actions have failed to align adequately with the bestowed grace. Engaging in retrospective contemplation during the final days of the year, I engage in self-evaluation and recognize that there existed untapped potential for greater contributions to the service of the Lord. Occasional remorse arises from insufficient allocation of time to familial obligations, missed opportunities for optimal utilization, deficiencies in discipline, and unfulfilled responsibilities. Nevertheless, I remain resolute in my optimism for the forthcoming year, anticipating the realization of more meaningful endeavors and the acquisition of enhanced knowledge.

Gratitude is extended to God’s Providence for the events of the year 2023, acknowledging the unwavering commitment of God and the munificent support received from collaborative partners. As the year 2024 unfolds, the pursuit of fresh objectives and the exploration of uncharted territories necessitate earnest intercessions and assistance from fellow brethren.

Thank you for your prayers and support.

Testimony

"I am a pastor serving in the northern mountain region. I aspired to open discipleship classes and train church workers, but I did not know where to start. Then, I learned about CCI about 3 years ago. I am glad that CCI provided us with good materials to disciple others; however, after receiving the materials, I found it very difficult to teach because of my lack of knowledge, even though I had graduated from Bible classes. We asked CCI to help teach us before we opened classes. Thanks to the help of benefactors and teachers from CCI, who actively trained us in northern Vietnam. After three rounds of intensive classes, each lasting 8-10 days, we completed the 10 books.

These intensive classes have been really helpful for my teaching ministry. I have determined that learning is first for myself, and then for the flock that God has entrusted me with. Thanks to this, I have become more confident in teaching CCI materials. I greatly look forward to other topics from CCI that will help us serve the Lord better."

Prayer Requests & Praises

  • Pray for our new students to be faithful and fruitful in learning.

  • Pray for God’s provision for teachers’ travels from village to village.

  • Pastor T and his wife are going to lead a workshop on “marriage and family life” on February 19-20, 2024, in central Vietnam and host the graduation ceremony for more than 30 CCI students across 3 different classes.

  • The seminar on “love and biblical dating” was developed into a format that is transferable to every CCI teacher. It is available in Hmong language. We are thankful that some churches are going to train their youth during the Chinese new year.

  • Pray for God to provide financially so we can build a house in my hometown. The house will be used for living, a Christian book company, a library, and a bible training center.
  • We praise God for the people who gave their hearts to the Lord last Christmas with a CCI teacher in the north.
