“A Mission in Motion”

Reflections by Christina Ahlen, MS, MASM

On 6/22/24, Rev. Toni Boehm will visit and guide us in a deep-dive creative process in which we update our local community’s mission statement. See below for more info. Please come!

“A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of human history.” ~Mahatma Gandhi

In her talk, Christina Ahlen will reflect on the creative process to formulate a mission statement, both as an intentional community and as individuals. She will talk about how an inspired idea by a few “determined spirits” found its out-picturing into a movement and organization called Unity.

It is no spoiler alert to say that it wasn’t always smooth sailing to arrive where we find ourselves today! During the growing process, they were called, then and again, to put their hearts and minds together to discuss “Who are we? What are our values? Where are we going? How will we best get there?” It is no different today. Rather than thinking in terms of status quo and change, Christina hopes to highlight that “we” have been in process all along!

In a world of top-down leadership, she cannot over stress how extraordinary a bottom-up community-based “Mission in Motion” really is. Mahatma Ghandi knew that finding, keeping, and living into a meaningful and clear mission will generate growth and bring focus to what we hold precious as we make choices leading us into the future. We may not change the course of human history here at Unity in the Rockies, but we surely will be a guiding light in Colorado Springs, as together, we align with our core beliefs, explore what matters most, and participate in the privilege to be an inspired part of the purpose and future of our spiritual community. And who knows, aren’t we also “a small body of determined spirits that change the course of [whatever we cannot even know yet!?]”

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday. Reminder to visit us on Saturday, June 22nd at 10am for a day of insight with

Rev. Toni Boehm.

Vision, Mission and Core Values Creation

10am to 3pm

Saturday, June 22nd

Unity Sanctuary

For about twenty years, our mission has been the following:

"We are an inclusive spiritual community where we recognize and express our oneness with each other and all creation.”

Just before the pandemic, we started gathering to draft a new vision, mission and core values. That effort was, of course, sidelined by Covid. As we move into a new time for Unity Spiritual Center in the Rockies, and in preparation for our minister search, we are going to resume our efforts to redefine our community’s purpose.

Rev. Toni Boehm, our Unity Consultant, will lead us through a well-tested process on Saturday, June 22nd, from 10 am to 3pm. Please join us in this very important gathering and bring something to share for lunch.

*At Rev. Toni’s request, you must be in attendance at 10 am to participate. If you are unable to be present at that time, but would like to give some input in writing, we will be sure to include whatever you submit. Please write your ideas and send them to

School Backpack Program

Each year, Westside CARES (WSC) provides 600 sets of school supplies and backpacks to help students on the west side, working through the counselors at about 25 schools. WSC buys the backpacks, and the member communities supporting Westside CARES provide the school supplies.

You are invited to support this important program

by Sunday, June 30th.

Unity has been asked to supply 385 glue sticks for the backpacks this year. We have found a source for the glue sticks at a very competitive price, so will be ordering them for a total cost of $104.79.

Please consider a donation to Unity toward the cost of the glue sticks. If you donate via cash or check, please note “WSC School Backpack Program” on your offering envelope.

Coming Soon! Online Contributions (via Unity Website)

Thank you for your generosity in helping students in need receive the school supplies they need to kick off the new school year!

Please Support Westside CARES’ Food Pantry &

Clothes Closet

June is one of four months annually that the Unity community is asked to provide food, toiletry, and clothing items for Westside CARES. While you may already contribute these items throughout the year, please consider giving extra this month.

If you’d like to bring your donations to Unity instead of Westside Cares, a volunteer will deliver them to Westside Cares.
