Dear Bet Torah Family:
As we move into the second week of the war in Israel, we are together, trying to find our way forward. Each of us is coping with the sense of loss and anguish as we try to understand the reports and news feeds. However, we do not need to experience this alone.
We are always grateful for our Bet Torah community, but now, we are so fortunate to have so many ways to connect – both in directly addressing the situation in Israel, and through ongoing activities where we can just be together as a community.
Bet Torah continues to think about how best we can meet the needs of each member of our congregation. The Rabbis and staff began providing resources, language, and a framework on Day 1 of the attack. This included resources for speaking to children, meeting with parents, meeting with college students, meeting with the families who have loved ones in Israel and providing incredible accessibility to pastoral counseling. They continue to plan specific times when congregants can become informed and process the events as they unfold.
In addition to these specific events, Bet Torah provides an array of opportunities to connect with each other. Whether or not we choose to use those times to articulate our thoughts and emotions about Israel, the ability to simply be together is healing and healthy. Check the weekly email to see which programming you want to join.
So please, take this time to show up for Minyan, show up for Shabbat, a Sisterhood mahjong lesson or a Men’s Club tavern night. Show up for a Contemplative Shabbat service, a Shabbat lunch and learn, a book club. Consider showing up for the Etgar Keret lecture, an Israeli renowned author. Bring your child to Shabbat Sha boom, come to Friday night services and dinner at Shabbat a la Mode, or attend the Sisterhood Boutique. It is through these connections, these shared experiences, where we empathize, share our thoughts and our time so that we can support each other. The simple act of gathering, in any forum, is an act of solidarity, of community.
Come to Bet Torah. Be with your people, your community. We are here for each other. This is a place of belonging.
Just as the clergy have made themselves available, please reach out to either of us, or any member of the Board of Directors at Bet Torah. We want to ensure that everyone receives whatever it is they need right now.
