A Message from the Superintendent and the Trustees of the Board of Education

May 13, 2024

Dear Bronxville Community,

It is with mixed emotions that I share with all of you that Dr Mara Ratesic-Koetke, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, is being named the next Superintendent of Irvington Union Free School District, effective July 1st, 2024. Dr. Koetke has dedicated the last 10 years to The Bronxville School, and I know we are all grateful for her time, expertise and care. It was Dr. Koetke who helped spearhead our work on The Bronxville Promise in the summer of 2014 and guided its evolution over the past decade. She has earned the respect of parents, faculty, and students as she immersed herself in all areas of curriculum and instruction, Kindergarten through 12th Grade. We wish Dr. Koetke the very best as she embarks on this well deserved next chapter of her professional career.

This is not the first time the School has been faced with the need to replace a senior and well regarded administrator. While it is always hard to say goodbye, Dr. Koetke’s departure presents a unique and exciting opportunity to consider where we are with our instructional program and where we desire to be in the months and years ahead. Over the course of the next few weeks, I look forward to sharing with you the School’s plans for filling the position of Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction. I’m confident that we can do so with minimal disruption to our instructional program and a keen eye forward as The Bronxville Promise continues to guide our work into the next great era.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions. For now, please join me and the Board of Education as we congratulate and thank Dr. Koetke as she prepares for her new adventure.

Please see Dr. Koetke's letter below.

Our very best,

Rachel L. Kelly, Ph.D.

Dear Bronxville School Community,

I have accepted a position as the Superintendent of Schools of the Irvington Union Free School District beginning July 1, pending the final approval of the School Board on May 15, 2024.

Serving as your Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction and helping to craft the Bronxville Promise has been one of the greatest joys of my life, both personally and professionally. In the ten years I have had the pleasure of working with you, we have experienced some triumphant moments and challenges. Throughout, you have demonstrated grace, compassion, and the strength of character that is the bedrock of leadership, empathy, thinking critically, engagement, and innovation.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the teachers, an incredible group of educators, who I learn so much from every single day! You are a brilliant group, and I will always hold the utmost respect for the work you do with the students who are ever so fortunate to have you. Thank you for all the hard work, the laughter, and the thoughtfulness you bring to the most rewarding profession.

To the Curriculum Leaders, past and present, thank you for shepherding the Bronxville Promise with me and bringing the four dispositions and the heart to life. Your leadership has provided me with the stability to dream big when it comes to the education of our students, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

To all of the faculty and staff including clerical, teacher aides, technology, teacher residents, counselors, psychologists, interns, dining services, facilities, medical, and security, thank you for making this such a first-rate school and for your warm, friendly smiles each day.

Thank you to the Leadership Team, the best in the business, for all of your support over the years. We have certainly accomplished a great deal together and kept our sense of humor while doing it. I will be forever grateful for our partnership.

To the Board of Education, past and present, thank you for your unwavering support of our work and the Bronxville Promise. Here’s to many more years of success!

To the PTA and the Bronxville Foundation, thank you for all you do! I simply could not have done it without your generosity. From supporting professional development to hosting beautiful celebrations reminding us of this wonderful community, you are exceptional!

And to the students who embody the Bronxville Promise in every way- by leading, innovating, engaging the world around you, and thinking critically; you are the reason your teachers come to work each day. Seeing you thrive is their ultimate reward. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

I will miss you all a great deal. Please know, I will carry you in my heart in this new beginning, 💙🤍

Best,

Mara
