A Message from AMF's Co-Founders

As AMF starts up its 8th school year of supporting grieving college students, there is much to celebrate.

In the last year, we've worked with students from 50+ chapters to provide meaningful support to grieving students on their campuses, developed a strong partnership with, and received a significant grant from, the New York Life Foundation, received our 200th request to start a chapter, hosted the 6th annual National Conference on College Student Grief, and continued to pioneer college student grief as an important national issue. Of course, none of this would have been possible without you, our strong network of students and supporters. So, thank you!

To continue to expand our support, our Board of Directors recently voted to create a new, three-person leadership structure of highly-skilled and veteran-AMF-team members. You'll get the chance to meet Kristen, Kiri, and Brittany in this newsletter.  Please also take the opportunity to reach out to them through email or telephone to better get to know them and immerse them in our AMF family.

It has been absolutely incredible to see the impact that this organization and our students have made since we developed our vision of providing a resource for grieving students nationwide eight years ago.   But there are still many more students in need of support. As we strive to support more students in need, we're inspired by Anne Marie Fajgenbaum's beautiful life, motivated by the important work ahead of us, and excited for our future with Brittany, Kristen, and Kiri at the helm!

AMF Welcomes New Leadership Team

Brittany Erwin is the Director of Operations for National Students of AMF. After learning about AMF's mission, she felt an immediate connection with the organization and joined the team as a volunteer with AMF in December 2011. She remained an active part of the organization ever since, including being Chair of the 2013 Spring Soiree, and is thrilled for the opportunity to join AMF as a full-time staff member. You can reach Brittany at brittany@studentsofamf.org

Kristen Stefureac, MSW, is the Program Manager for National Students of AMF. After the death of her mother in 2006, Kristen joined the AMF family in 2008 as a Chapter President at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Kristen found comfort and support through AMF and has remained an active part of the organization ever since, serving as the Chair of the Board of Alumni/Student Leaders, interning at the office, and assisting with various AMF events and projects. You can reach Kristen at kristen@studentsofamf.org

Kiri Thompson, MS, TLPC, is the Director of Chapter Development for National Students of AMF. Kiri joined the AMF family first in 2008 as the AMF Chapter President at University of Wisconsin - Green Bay. Kiri stayed involved by volunteering as the Director of Chapter Development and Vice Chair of the Board of Alumni/Student Leaders for the past two years. She is thrilled to be able to continue helping chapters to reach more grieving students and in deeper ways now that she has been hired as the Director of Chapter Development. You can reach Kiri at kiri@studentsofamf.org

6th Annual National Conference on College Student Grief Recap
AMF Conference

National Students of AMF hosted the 6th annual National Conference on College Student Grief July 26-28 in Raleigh, NC. More than 60 passionate chapter leaders, university faculty, community members, volunteers, and AMF Board members attended the weekend-long conference. AMF provided financial support to student leaders from across the country so that they could receive leadership training. We loved the following comment from one of our students: "The entire conference was inspirational-what a weekend! I cannot wait for next year's conference already. Between the socializing during lunch breaks, and the engaging speakers, I would have to say not a moment went by that I did not enjoy." Thank you to everyone who helped make this year's conference a success!

Check out this short video from Juliana, one of our student leaders, who attended the conference:
