Commissioner’s Kudos!

Kudos to the Dual Recovery Anonymous Leadership Development Certification Program. This certification course is a space for people in recovery, supporters, and clinicians to learn more about Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA) and develop strong leadership skills in the program. The teaching team includes Val Comerford, Director of Recovery and Employment DMH CMA as well as many other longtime members and supporters.

Students are taken through the skills necessary to facilitate DRA meetings both in-person and on Zoom. The course highlighted the materials put forth by DRA founder Tim Hamilton including the DRA Format, Crest, Traditions, 12 Steps, and more. Manny Hernandez and James Terrio (pictured with Val), who are peer support specialists in the DMH Central Mass Area, were students from the first graduating class. The graduation was held at the Safe Coalition offices in Franklin on January 24th.

Manny and James now have the skills to help develop Dual Recovery Anonymous meetings in conjunction with their Clubhouse partners. James will be partnering with Compass Clubhouse in Fitchburg, and Manny is partnering with staff and members from Options Clubhouse in Marlborough.

If you are interested in this course, please reach out to Val Comerford, Valerie.Comerford@mass.gov
