The latest news, events and updates from the City of San Gabriel

Dear San Gabriel community,

This past Saturday, San Gabriel Valley experienced one of the most tumultuous and tragic weekends ever. As the situation unfolded, the San Gabriel Fire Department and San Gabriel Police Department both received the emergency call and immediately jumped into action to assist our neighboring city’s first responders. Our firefighters and police officers provided care and protection to the victims in the aftermath of the shooting, and I am thankful for their presence and selfless actions.

Like many of you, I am continuing to process Saturday night’s Monterey Park tragedy. If you continue to be affected by the tragic events and notice any signs of mental distress, please do not hesitate to ask for help. You can access 24/7 support and resources by dialing 988 or calling the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health’s helpline at (800) 854-7771. There are also online resources available in various languages at dmh.lacounty.gov.

While we remain on a heightened sense of alert and work through the residual effects of the shooting, I invite you to keep vigilant and to speak up if you see something out of the ordinary. If you aren’t signed up for the city’s emergency notification system, I invite you to do so that you can instantly receive info on your mobile phone and/or email.

Best,

Mark Lazzaretto

City Manager

A Message Regarding Yesterday's

Incident At Gabrielino High School

Yesterday, San Gabriel Police Department (SGPD) received a call at 9:45 a.m. of a bomb threat at Gabrielino High School. The campus was immediately placed on lockdown while students and staff were evacuated in an orderly fashion. SGPD officers began sweeping the campus and neighboring law enforcement agencies also arrived to assist.

Once all students and staff were safely evacuated to an offsite location, the school launched the reunification plan to reunite students with their parents. Ultimately, after a thorough check of the entire campus with SGPD K-9 units, no threat was found and the campus was cleared by 3:30 p.m.

Following the incident, SGPD maintained a presence on site throughout the rest of the day and is continuing to investigate the source of the false threat.

The City and School District staff will continue to work collaboratively to make sure student and school safety remains a top priority for all of us.
